Well if I had to guess his arm must be locked in place by now so I don't think he even can lower it anymore, or move it at all since it has atrophied completely. But I'm not sure how long it would take before his arm got locked in place tho. It's pretty amazing that the arm didn't fully die and that it still has circulation to maintain the health of the rest of the body despite it losing all function, and that the chest and shoulder adapt even in adulthood to maintain the most unnatural posture. I'm surprised it didn't induce a heart attack at some point or develop cancer either.

It is not a secret what happens to joints when you don´t move them. After ~6 weeks, bone tissue starts to grow in the joint, and you can´t move the joint anymore after that process. This happens to people with paralysis, after a stroke for example, if the joint isn´t moved by others. So this guy basically made his arm go plegic.

I don't think that you can't move your joint if you haven't used it for ~6 weeks. People have casts/plasters for months and they can move their joint rather freely after removal of the cast/plaster.

My grand mother's youngest sister had taken a holy vow not to raise head and speak since she was 14 years old. I grew up looking at her tapping on tables and signing to convey what she needed. in 1995 or 96 I am not sure, at the age of 64-65 years.. she gathered the whole family and spoke that her 50 years long prayer/meditation/vow has ended. now you can not imagine what a vocal cord not used for her entire life sounded like. she sounded like a 14 year old in a 65 year old body. she was very selective of what to speak and for how long. for months people used to come from all over to hear her say some blessings to them. I was fortunate enough to have seen her before as well as after completion of her meditative vow of silence.. there was always a mystical smile on her face.. she passed away in 2016.
I will always remember her face filled with the eternal stoic calmness and the smile of a 14 years old. RIP grandma
