From his flow to the beats that he rhymes over, everything about rapper Shade Sheist screams "West Coast" in no uncertain terms. Sheist has, on occasion, worked with some East Coast rappers -- including Fabolous, Ja Rule and Naughty by Nature members Treach and Kay Gee -- but even so, Sheist is very much a product of the Southern California rap scene. Heavily influenced by West Coast gangsta rappers such as Snoop Doggy Dogg, DJ Quik, Warren G, Dr. Dre, and the late N.W.A. agitator Eazy-E, Sheist was born and raised in the Inglewood area. Anyone who forgets how long rap has been around need only think about how long Sheist has been alive; the Southern Californian was born in the early '80s, which means that he was only a baby when trailblazing old-school East Coast rappers like Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, the Sugarhill Gang (as in "Rappers Delight") and the Treacherous Three were at the height of their popularity. It also means that he was only two or three years old when Ice-T -- the seminal father of West Coast gangsta rap -- started recording in 1983.
Fast forward a little over a decade and Shade Sheist found himself on the receiving end of a joint venture deal with Universal Records in 2002. Universal's MCA Records released Sheist's first full-length solo album, “Informal Introduction” on September 10, 2002. It was not only hailed as a West Coast classic but also introduced Sheist to an international audience. The project features several Top Five and Top Ten singles: "Wake Up" featuring Nate Dogg and Warren G (produced by Kay Gee of Naughty by Nature) "Money Owners" produced by and co-starring Timbaland, and "John Doe" produced by and co-starring Dj Quik. The album's lead single "Where I Wanna Be," features Nate Dogg & Kurupt and as mentioned, hit the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Rap/Hip-Hop Singles and Airplay charts.
Shade Sheist has recorded with the industry’s best including: Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Dj Quik, Teddy Riley, Mariah Carey, Bone Thugs n Harmony and so many more. Some of Shade's notable musical acheivements include songs on “The Fast and The Furious,” "The Wash" and “Dark Angel” motion picture / television soundtracks, as well as the “True Crime: Streets of L.A.” and “25 to Life” videogame soundtracks. Being involved in all of these successful projects has helped Shade Sheist build a very loyal international fanbase that continues to grow daily. Once Shade has your attention he intends to keep it. His charm and the fact that he is so well spoken are just a few of the other great qualities that make Shade Sheist an artist to witness.

Right here with my loved ones
Smokin' on some weed
You got chronic why don't you light it up
Now who's that kickin in the K for the West?
Shade pop with the flows that seep hoes in your vest
Half nigga with the word
Where I'm from, we prone to lick shots
Now Dogg Pound Gangstas but me up on game (up on game)
Now that I'm here a lot of shit gonna change
Mister quick to buy a chain, mister let the chain hang
Showin off the broads
I'm mister quick to get to bang
Now you might catch Sheist gettin bent in every coast
Still the nigga with the heat gettin rid of every coast
Still fuckin with Mizz, we run trizz when we bored
And you know I got the X, twenties what they hittin for
See me if you want to score, 'cause I got what you need
Or you can see me at the club, tinted SUV
Gettin in for free, I'm bout to get my name known
Sheist pull a heist nigga just to get it on
This is where I want to be
Right here with my loved ones
Smokin' on some weed
You got chronic why don't you light it up
Check this out
You see, how I figure this thing
We can, all take over this game
If we, come together do this shit right
We can, all have a piece of the pie
You know, how i figured this out
I just, took a little trip down South
Soon as, I set foot off the plane
It was, just like a family thing
You know, a gangsta's hard to decieve
So I, took a little trip to the East
I'm not, slow so I can wait for the game
I'm not, broke so I'm in bulletproof everything
When I, touch down it ain't like a thing
They ain't, trippin off nothin but things
So I, quickly disposed of my shades
If we, if we ain't got us nigga where would we aim
This is where I want to be
Right here with my loved ones
Smokin' on some weed
You got chronic why don't you light it up
Yeah
Show me somethin I ain't never seen
I step in the house-party with a gangsta lean
It's Dogg Pound Gangstas we strikin back again
Ready to ride in the Lac again
Givin it up for Mack 10 and T-Boz for doin it
This ain't nothin but a gangsta reunion
New York and California, the places to be
Nate Dogg and Kurupt broadcast for free
We at the DoggHouse where the dogs at
Who want to get with me?
Baby meet me in the back
Young Damien Young, this is number two
Ridin out room
Nigga what you want to do?
This is where I want to be
Right here with my loved ones
Smokin' on some weed
You got chronic why don't you light it up
In the lyrics of Shade Sheist's song "Where I Wanna Be," the singer expresses his desire to be with his loved ones, smoking weed, and enjoying life. The first verse sees Sheist assert his West Coast roots by referencing his tendency to "lick shots." He also references his association with the Dogg Pound Gangstas, stating that they have put him "up on game" now that he's living the high life. The song also speaks to the importance of unity among rappers in the industry, as Sheist notes that if they all band together, they can all enjoy success.
Sheist's lyrics are raw and honest, but also optimistic in their outlook. He speaks to the reality of living a gangsta lifestyle, but also sees the value in connecting with others and working together. The chorus of the song reiterates his desire to be with those closest to him, enjoying the simple things in life.
The song is a classic example of West Coast rap, with hard-hitting beats and powerful vocals. It serves as a great example of the genre, while also presenting a message of unity and togetherness that is often overlooked in rap music.
