Gold Dust
Shadow Gallery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You and I
Lie awake for hours
Separated by the world
Well, I can't see you
You can't see me
But somehow I can feel you
Slip inside my soul
Gold dust in my hands and always in my eyes
I wait in the desert for you
Moonbeams on my waves and always in my skies
I close my eyes as I'm soaring for your
You float, you're a dream you take my hand and we run
We run, we run
Cause you are the one

So lucid, alone I crystallize all my thoughts
Resolute I spin my compass as I chart my course
Onward through the haze, you know I feel you
I reach out through the black, you know I feel you
So torrid, the dream, this could be so unreal
Who says I can't feel just what I want to feel?
You trip through my skies, I'm captivated
One look in those eyes, I'm captivated

One lone silhouette is frozen dancing in time
Out over the edge, out ever the line
Who are you?
I'm questioning you
And who am I?
Who am I?
All this so lavishly displayed
(Won't you come over to my side?)
Pure essence, I can't turn away
(Only if you're in the light - in my life)

Gold dust in my hands and always in my eyes
I wait in the desert for you
Moonbeams on my waves and always in my skies
I close my eyes as I'm soaring for you
You float, you're a dream you take my hand and we run

And we run we run
Cause you are the one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Shadow Gallery's song "Gold Dust" seem to describe a unique, almost otherworldly relationship between two people who are unable to physically be with one another. The opening lines suggest a sense of longing and distance, as the two individuals are "separated by the world" and unable to see one another, but the singer can still feel the other person "slip inside" their soul. This idea of an intangible connection is further emphasized in the chorus, with "gold dust" and "moonbeams" serving as metaphorical representations of the other person's presence. The singer waits for their beloved in the desert, and when they close their eyes, they feel as if they are soaring together.

The verses of the song delve deeper into the singer's thoughts and emotions, describing a sense of clarity and focus as they contemplate their relationship. The line "so lucid, alone I crystallize all my thoughts" suggests a kind of mental clarity and determination, while "onward through the haze" connotes an almost spiritual perseverance. The dreamlike quality of the relationship is described as "torrid", although it's unclear whether this is meant to convey a sense of passion or instability. There is also a hint of uncertainty in the lyrics, with the singer questioning their own identity as well as that of their beloved.

Overall, "Gold Dust" is a complex and introspective song that explores the themes of long-distance relationships, emotional connection, and self-discovery.

Great video debut! Like many longtime fans, yes, it would of been awesome to see earlier video productions with Mr Baker however there's no denying that this clip along with their CD release of "Digital Ghosts" w/ new singer Mr Ashland commences a new chapter for Shadow Gallery. They will continue to be, in my opinion, the trinitarian of prog bands, along with Rush & Dream Theater, for generations to take notice how power & beautiful prog music can be.

probatos1

Love the edit on this song...all the songs besides strong which I don't like are great...worth listening many times and far better than room as they are more simple yet with the classical character of shadow Gallery. Glad that after all these years they still make good music and fresh together with symphony X...

Tony Demian Gómez

Una de las bandas más grandes del Metal Progresivo! Con su sonido característico en sus voces con un espíritu muy similar al viejo Kansas y toda la impronta del ochentoso Queensryche! No me canso de escucharla..Saludos!!!

Although it's great to see you finally in a videoclip, I've to say I was expecting something more from such a great band. And, sad, sad, sad to say, but I miss Mike Baker so much. I'd have loved to see him on a SG videoclip....
