1, Shaggy (born October 22, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica as Orville Richard Burrell), is a Jamaican reggae artist who takes his nickname from his shaggy hair. He is especially notable for his distinctive sub-baritone voice.
His family immigrated to the United States and they settled in the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn, located in New York City, New York, USA.
In 1988, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during Operation Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War.
On his return from Iraq, he decided to pursue his music career and his first hit in 1993: "Oh Carolina", was a dancehall re-make of a ska hit by the Folkes Brothers. The same year, Shaggy appeared on Kenny Dope's hip hop album "The Unreleased Project". He worked together with producers such as Sting Intl., Don One (who cut his first track), Lloyd 'Spiderman' Campbell and Robert Livingston. He had further big hits, including "Boombastic" in 1995.
He then had a major comeback in 2001, featuring worldwide number-one hit singles "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel," the latter of which was built around Merrilee Rush's 1968 hit "Angel of the Morning" (which was remade in 1981 by Juice Newton). The album Hot Shot, from which those cuts came, would hit number one on the Billboard 200.
However, his 2002 release Lucky Day, and the 2005 album Clothes Drop failed to match Hot Shot's success.
Shaggy performed the theme for Showtime (film), a 2002 movie.
2, Shaggy, a swedish rock/blues rock band from the 1970's. Released one album, "Lessons for beginners"
Christmas In Jamaika
Shaggy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
Toni Braxton
Mister Boombastic
Just call me Santa Claus
Playin' in the sand
Got my Coppertone
Getting on my tan
Exotic setting for a
Lady and her man
A perfect little holiday
Sounds like a plan
We can stay in bed all afternoon
We can make out to some cool reggae tunes
We can sail under the light of the moon
Wish we could freeze this moment
Then it wouldn't end so soon
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
Unplug the phones, why'all
Don't need no calls
No callin' home
Take a break from it all
'Cause we both grown
And we can do whatever, see?
Baby, it's just you and me
Let's live out a fantasy
Hiking in the mountains, romantic rendezvous
Bathing in the fountains, stop, let me look at you
Just in case you're doubtin', let me paint a view
Picture you're in heaven, everything is true
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
It's Christmas time let's catch the vibe
Just come on come on girl
I'm rockin' you Jamaican style
Just come on come on girl
We can chill here for a while
Come on come on girl
Baby it's just you and me girl
Come on come on, it's a fantasy
Just come on come on girl
Toni Braxton, shut it
Come on come on, it's a fantasy
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
You know when you come to this Jamaica
Lovin' it
I'm an all nighter, girl
Yeah girl, it's an all nighter
Sing it to me girl
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
We'll be having fun
Under the golden sun
Christmas in Jamaica here we come
We'll just sail on, just sail
The lyrics of "Christmas in Jamaica" by Shaggy featuring Toni Braxton are an ode to Jamaica as the perfect holiday destination. The song starts by painting the picture of the perfect Christmas vacation under the golden sun in this Caribbean paradise. The artists choose to sail away from their daily lives and bask in the warm weather while listening to cool reggae tunes. They want to be carefree and unplugged, just enjoying each other's company in the exotic landscape. As the song continues, they indulge in fancy fantasies of hiking mountains, bathing in fountains, and having romantic rendezvous. They want to freeze this moment and never let it end.
The upbeat tempo and lively reggae beats enhance the lyrics' carefree nature and playfulness, encouraging listeners to join in and imagine the Jamaican paradise for themselves. Ultimately, the song celebrates the holiday spirit with friends and loved ones in an exotic and relaxing atmosphere.
