She Wolf
Shakira (Calvin Harris Remix) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
S-O-S she is in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise,
Coming out, coming out, coming out
A domesticated girl that's all you ask of me,
Darling it is no joke, this is lycanthropy
Moon's awake now, with eyes wide open
I've been devoting myself to you
Monday to Monday
And Friday to Friday
Not getting enough retribution
Or decent incentives to keep me at it
Starting to feel just a little abused
Like a coffee machine in an office (ahoo)
So I'm gonna go somewhere closer
To get me a lover and tell you about it
There's a she wolf in the closet,
Open up and set her free (ahoo)
There's a she wolf in the closet,
Let it out so it can breath
Sitting across the bar, staring right at her prey,
It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way
Nocturnal creatures are not so prudent,
The moon's my teacher, and I'm her student
To locate the single man
I've got on me a special radar,
And the fire department's hot line
in case I get in trouble later
Not looking for cute little divas
Or rich city guys that just want to enjoy
I'm having a very good time
and behave very bad in the arms of a boy
There's a she wolf in the closet
Open up and set her free (ahoo)
There's a she wolf in the closet
Let it out so it can breath
S-O-S she is in disguise
S-O-S she is in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
S-O-S she is in disguise
S-O-S she is in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
There's a she wolf in the closet
Let it out so it can breath
The lyrics of this song talk about a woman who feels trapped and restricted in her domestic life, and is fighting to break free of societal expectations and be true to her wild and untamed nature. The metaphor of a 'she wolf in disguise' is used to represent this idea of hidden passion and instinctual desire.
The first verse of the song sets the scene with the line 'A domesticated girl that's all you ask of me', which highlights the expectation placed on women to conform to societal norms and be the perfect wife and mother. However, the singer reveals that there is much more to her than meets the eye, and that her true nature is one of wildness and primal desire.
The chorus of the song repeats the metaphor of the 'she wolf in the closet', urging the singer to embrace her true self and let her wildness out into the world. The verses then delve into the singer's struggles with feeling unappreciated and undervalued in her current domestic life, and her quest to find passion and excitement elsewhere.
Overall, the lyrics of this song encourage women to be true to themselves and embrace their inner wildness, rather than living according to the expectations and limitations placed on them by society.

She wolf representing the Mother Goddess, the raising of the divine children, and the connection between the Father God and man. She wolf connections to the primary Goddess are very common across Eurasia.
It is interesting to note how Maria = Rhea Silvia / consort, God / Deus = Zeus / Mars and with the case of Romulus, the She Wolf matched this story.
The below was written by Georgi Mishev who wrote the book Thracian Magic: Past & Present which I currently have been reading through. This book shows how Christanity and Bulgarian (as well as other Slavic and Greek) paganism were merged. I also linked his book below.
"21st of November marks the presentation of the Virgin Mary at the temple as a child.
In Bulgaria the day is also known as the Wolf Mother of God and it marks the end of the Wolf Days, a period with various taboos regarding wolves. This association of the Mother of God with Bulgarian wolf folklore contains echoes of a pre-Christian wolf cult linked to a female deity or mistress of the wolves. The protective power of the she-wolf is invoked in some traditional Bulgarian healing / protective incantations. There is also a Bulgarian harvest song in which a woman forgets her child in the fields after she finishes the day’s work. When she returns she finds three samodivi (wood and water nymphs) in the shape of wolves sitting around the cradle, watching over the child.
Let us celebrate and honor in the next days the Hekate Lykaina (She-Wolf) and Chthonia!"
