The lyrics of "Tasteless" convey a sense of frustration at the shallowness and superficiality of modern society. The first verse critiques consumerism (“cut out the commodities”) and the way we prioritize our own egos above all else (“an internal crisis glued to an ego’s need”). The repetition of “well it’s fucked” and “well you’re just out of luck” emphasises a sense of hopelessness and despair, as if the artist is resigned to the state of things. The second verse attacks the way we are “distorted by distance” and “indulged in gluttony,” specifically calling out the racist connotations of pretending to be “fo frogs in France.” The chorus asks “how tasteless can you be,” implying that the behavior and attitudes being criticized are not only empty and shallow but also offensive.

The second half of the song takes aim at various other elements of society that the artist sees as misguided or corrupt. “Mismanaged statistics” are used to manipulate us into making “the safest bet,” rather than doing what’s right. The line “sodomy had a place in the past but now it’s fashionable” is ambiguous but may be referring to the way some people co-opt queer sexuality as a trend rather than actually supporting LGBTQ+ rights. The line “I like you better when you’re not around” could be seen as a general expression of antipathy towards society as a whole, or it could be directed at an individual who embodies the negative traits the artist is critiquing.
