Shane Barnard
Christianity began to play an active role in the life of Barnard when he was in ninth grade, when he began to attend a Bible church youth group. He began leading worship soon thereafter. During his junior year as a student at Texas A&M University, Barnard began a recording career.
Prior to joining Everett, Barnard teamed up with friend Caleb Carruth to release an album. Entitled "Salvation Still Remains", it was released in limited numbers. Barnard and Carruth were rumored to have recorded the album in only two days due to the fact they had to pay for studio time themselves and wanting to make the most of it. Family and friends brought them sandwiches and drinks through out the process. Barnard and Carruth later agreed to end their partnership amicably, stating "they were just moving in different directions".
Shane married CCM singer Bethany Dillon on March 29, 2008.
Shane Everett
Everett was born in Dallas, Texas and later moved to Garland, a nearby suburb. Everett also attended Texas A&M University. After playing in a bar band, 4D2, one night Everett experienced an encounter with God which led him to Central Baptist Church, where he became a Christian. Shortly thereafter, he met Barnard, and became part of a weekly student-led praise and worship service at Texas A&M.
The band originally began with Barnard performing solo acts, but Everett increasingly played a major role in his performances. With the release of their 2003 album, entitled Carry Away, the band became officially known as Shane & Shane.
Band Members
Taylor Johnson
Johnson started as a guitarist for Todd Agnew. After Agnew moved to Memphis, Tennessee, Taylor stayed behind and played the guitar for the Robbie Seay Band. When Robbie Seay Band went on tour with Shane & Shane during David Crowder Band's "A Collision Tour", he played guitar for both, staying on with the new group. Taylor later went full time with the David Crowder Band, and is now back with Shane & Shane.

I'm Alive
Shane & Shane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Something deep within is welling up in praise
You're compelling me with unfailing love
Oh to lose my life in You that I might live
Oh You loved me and love me
And You gave Yourself for me
Hey hey hey
You have resurrected my heart from the grave
Hey hey hey
I'm alive
You are telling me who I really am
I've been crucified with Christ and I no longer live
But He lives in me and the life I live
In the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God.
Oh Who loved me and loves me
And Who gave Himself for me
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
These lyrics from Shane & Shane's "I'm Alive" exalt the transformative power of God's love and grace. The first stanza declares that God is changing the singer "from the inside out," and that this change is causing something deep within them to well up in praise. The second part of the stanza expresses the singer's desire to lose their life in God so that they may truly live. The second stanza is a reminder of the good news of the Gospel, that Christ died and rose again for the salvation of humanity. The chorus repeats the message that the singer is alive because of this salvation, and it ends with a proclamation of amazement at how sweet God's grace truly is.
However, the bridge is what really ties these lyrics together. It begins by saying that God is telling the singer who they really are. Then it quotes Galatians 2:20, which says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." This is the heart of the Christian message - that when one believes in Christ, they die to their old selves and are given new life through Christ. The bridge continues with a declaration that this new life is lived through faith in the Son of God who loves and gave Himself for them.
Overall, these lyrics are a powerful reminder of the transformative nature of God's love and the freedom that it brings. They encourage believers to live out their new lives through faith, constantly praising and exalting the One who made it possible.
