Shane Barnard
Christianity began to play an active role in the life of Barnard when he was in ninth grade, when he began to attend a Bible church youth group. He began leading worship soon thereafter. During his junior year as a student at Texas A&M University, Barnard began a recording career.
Prior to joining Everett, Barnard teamed up with friend Caleb Carruth to release an album. Entitled "Salvation Still Remains", it was released in limited numbers. Barnard and Carruth were rumored to have recorded the album in only two days due to the fact they had to pay for studio time themselves and wanting to make the most of it. Family and friends brought them sandwiches and drinks through out the process. Barnard and Carruth later agreed to end their partnership amicably, stating "they were just moving in different directions".
Shane married CCM singer Bethany Dillon on March 29, 2008.
Shane Everett
Everett was born in Dallas, Texas and later moved to Garland, a nearby suburb. Everett also attended Texas A&M University. After playing in a bar band, 4D2, one night Everett experienced an encounter with God which led him to Central Baptist Church, where he became a Christian. Shortly thereafter, he met Barnard, and became part of a weekly student-led praise and worship service at Texas A&M.
The band originally began with Barnard performing solo acts, but Everett increasingly played a major role in his performances. With the release of their 2003 album, entitled Carry Away, the band became officially known as Shane & Shane.
Band Members
Taylor Johnson
Johnson started as a guitarist for Todd Agnew. After Agnew moved to Memphis, Tennessee, Taylor stayed behind and played the guitar for the Robbie Seay Band. When Robbie Seay Band went on tour with Shane & Shane during David Crowder Band's "A Collision Tour", he played guitar for both, staying on with the new group. Taylor later went full time with the David Crowder Band, and is now back with Shane & Shane.

Without You
Shane & Shane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can walk by faith when my sight is gone
Just as long as you are here with me
And I can gain everything
But what do I have if I don't have the key
Oh I need to know you're here with me
Here I am calling out Father
I don't want to go without you
Here I am can You talk a little louder
So I can hear You, I want to hear You
I don't want to move without You
Even though I believe
You've taken up a home inside me
And you'll never leave
I still need to know You'll never leave
Here I am calling out Father
Can you hear me, can you hear me
I don't want to go without you
Here I am can You talk a little louder
So I can hear You, I want to hear You
I don't want to move without You
If Your presence goes I don't want to stay
If Your presence stays I don't want to go
If Your presence goes I don't want to stay
If Your presence stays I don't want to go
I need You
Here I am calling out Father
Can you hear me, can you hear me
I don't want to go without you
Here I am can You talk a little louder
So I can hear You, I want to hear You
I don't want to move without You
Here I am I'm calling out Father
Can you hear me, can you hear me
I don't want to go without you
Here I am can You talk a little louder
So I can hear You, I want to hear You
I don't want to move without You
Oh
In this song, Shane & Shane speak about their deep need for God's presence in their lives. The lyrics express the idea that even when life is hard and situations are stormy, they can walk by faith as long as God is with them. The singers acknowledge that they can gain everything in life, but without God, everything would be meaningless. The chorus emphasizes this point by saying, "If Your presence goes, I don't want to stay. If Your presence stays, I don't want to go." Essentially, the lyrics are a plea to God to make his presence known, so that the singers can feel comforted and supported as they navigate life.
Interestingly, the song draws inspiration from a passage in Exodus, in which Moses tells God, "If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here" (Exodus 33:15). The use of scripture here underlines the idea that the singers are drawing on a long tradition of people who have sought God's presence in their lives.
One of the most striking aspects of this song is its simple and repetitive structure. The chorus is repeated multiple times, with little variation. This creates a meditative atmosphere that encourages the listener to focus on the lyrics and really absorb their message. Additionally, the song features minimalist instrumentation, which allows the lyrics to take center stage.
