You Didn't Glow Up

Old ass face with some little baby hands
You'll need those ghosts in the house when I ghost you
It's me, not you, but I'd rather fuck Drew
Cheeto ran away from you, Uno won't behave for you
Your old ass hair was straighter than you'll ever be
Not even that could straighten out your sexuality
You look like a throw-up
You got a flaky-ass face and your hair is always dirty
You're still on YouTube even though you're almost thirty
I think I'd rather give my "SuperLuv" to Dan and Phil
I wish you'd pick some clothes at the rate you pick your ass
You wrote two books that I didn't even read
I use your podcast just to help me sleep
Congratulations on ten million subs
It took you ten years and for Jake it took ten months
They say it gets worse but I have to disagree
There ain't nothin' worse than reviews for your movie
You didn't glow up
You look like a throw-up
You got a flaky-ass face and your hair is always dirty
You're still on Youtube even though you're almost thirty
You didn't glow up
You look like a throw-up
You got a flaky-ass face and your hair is always dirty
You're still on Youtube even though you're almost thirty
I'll go home
No, seriously, I'm moving home
I can't stand the smell anymore
Goodbye, sexual
The lyrics of Shane Dawson's song "You Didn't Glow Up" are a direct expression of his feelings towards someone who has not improved or grown in a positive way over time. He uses vivid and sometimes harsh imagery to convey his message. The first verse highlights the contrast between the person's outdated appearance (Jurassic Park car, old ass face, little baby hands) and their attempts to maintain relevance (needing ghosts in the house, being on YouTube). The mention of Drew, a possible romantic interest, suggests that the person being addressed is not attractive to Shane compared to others. The lyrics also touch on the person's inability to control their pet (Cheeto running away, Uno not behaving) and their inability to straighten out their own sexuality, indicating a lack of self-awareness.
The chorus, repeated twice, emphasizes Shane's opinion that this person has not improved or transformed in any positive way. He describes their appearance as throw-up-like and their hair as always dirty. The mention of still being on YouTube despite nearing thirty suggests that the person may be clinging onto their online presence without personal growth or maturity.
The second verse continues to criticize the person's choices and achievements. Shane expresses a preference for other content creators (Dan and Phil) and mocks the person's writing accomplishments (books he didn't read). He also admits to using the person's podcast as a tool for falling asleep. The mention of ten million subscribers and the contrasting time it took Shane and Jake (another YouTuber) to reach that milestone serves to highlight the person's slow progression. Lastly, Shane brings up negative reviews for the person's movie, suggesting that it is the worst thing the person has experienced.
