Lie to Me
Shane Mack Lyrics

Deny that you’re in any hurry
Cry and tell me not to worry
‘Cause what I don’t know, is never gonna hurt me
Breathe, now baby don’t feel guilty
Deceive me then just walk away
Leave me, the truth will only kill me
One more bad excuse
Before you turn me lose
Give me something to remember you by
Couldn’t you offer me
A little dishonesty
Promise me you’ll try
You’ll lie to me
Go, your plane is not gonna stay
Slow, so I can take it in
And so you say you’ll see me later
When you know you won’t see me again
Please before you let go of me
Take me one more time
Appease me, tell me that you love me
That you haven’t gone and change your mind
One more bad excuse
Before you turn me lose
Give me something to remember you by
Couldn’t you offer me
A little dishonesty
Promise me you’ll try
You’ll lie to me
Lie of why you're leavin' early
Deny that you’re in any hurry
Cry and tell me not to worry
‘Cause what I don’t know, is never gonna hurt me
One more bad excuse
Before you turn me lose
Give me something to remember you by
Couldn’t you offer me
A little dishonesty
Promise me you’ll try
You’ll lie to me
The lyrics of Shane Mack’s “Lie To Me” tells the story of a relationship hanging by a thread, knowing that it is about to end, but one partner is not ready to let go just yet. The partner in question asks the other to lie to them, to give them a reason to remember them by, to make the process of saying goodbye slightly less painful. The lyrics are filled with mixed feelings of betrayal, hurt, and wanting to hold on to something that is slipping away. The song’s message is about the lengths people go to hold on to something that is no longer there, to avoid facing the painful truth that a relationship has come to an end. The singer is begging for a lie that will offer even a slight possibility of hope, despite knowing the truth.
The repetitive verse, “One more bad excuse before you turn me loose. Give me something to remember you by. Couldn't you offer me, a little dishonesty? Promise me you'll try. You'll lie to me,” amplifies the underlying message of the song. The singer would rather have a lie than deal with the stark reality of the situation. The chorus mentions, “What I don’t know is never gonna hurt me” and shows how ignorance, in this case, could provide some sense of relief.
Overall, Shane Mack's song “Lie to Me” touches on a subject that most people can relate to, wanting to hold on to something that is no longer there. The song’s lyrics are an embodiment of the emotions felt during the end of a relationship, the feeling that lying would be kinder than telling the complete truth.
