In For it Now
Shane and Caleb Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

i've been here for a while
tomorrow seems like yesterday
i wouldn't call it a state of denial
i forgot how to pray

i've been here for too long
i feel i've been defiled
would it be wrong to sing this song
too hard to reconcile

what is this life i live
i abuse the word 'forgive'
why did You put me here
if You would reign down tears

and the pressures building now
and i'm weighted to the ground
and these bricks i've laid by hand
and i'm in for it now

amazing grace how sweet the sound

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of the song In For it Now, "I've been here for a while, tomorrow seems like yesterday," evoke a sense of timelessness and ennui. The singer is stuck in the same place, unable to move forward or backward. He goes on to say that he wouldn't call it a state of denial, but it's clear that he's struggling to come to terms with something. He's forgotten how to pray, which suggests that he's lost his faith or he's come to believe that prayer is ineffective.

As the song progresses, the singer's sense of malaise deepens. He feels defiled, like he's done something wrong, but he can't put his finger on what it is. He wonders if it would be wrong to sing this song, which suggests that he feels guilty for expressing his doubts and fears. He questions the very meaning of his existence, wondering why God put him on earth if He'll only rain down tears. The pressures building, and he feels weighted to the ground. The bricks he's laid by hand, which might represent the choices he's made in life, are bearing down on him. He's in for it now, which suggests that he's finally going to have to face the consequences of his actions.

The reference to "Amazing Grace" is interesting because it's a hymn that's often associated with redemption and forgiveness. The singer has been abusing the word "forgive," which implies that he's done something that he believes is unforgivable. Despite this, he seems to acknowledge that there's still hope for him. The sweet sound of "Amazing Grace" represents that hope, reminding him that even when things seem hopeless, redemption is still possible.

[Chorus, x4]
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from Heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

[Verse 1]
Wide awake when the world is sound asleep and
Too afraid of what might show up while you're dreaming
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody would believe you

[Verse 2]
Every day you try to pick up all the pieces
All the memories, they somehow never leave you
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody would believe you

[Pre-Chorus]
God only knows what you've been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows how it's killing you
Is there a kinda love that...

[Chorus]
Our God is an awesome God / God only knows what you've been through
He reigns from Heaven above / God only knows what they say about you
With wisdom, power, and love / God only knows how it's killing you
Our God is an awesome God / Is there a kinda love that God only knows?

Our God is an awesome God / God only knows what you've been through
He reigns from Heaven above / God only what they say about you
With wisdom, power, and love / God only knows the real you
Our God is an awesome God / Is there a kinda love that God only knows?

[Outro]
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from Heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Dear God, please save Netflix and enable them to make more Godly content like this 💌

@joshuacstorlie

Is it a Christian series? The show description says that it is about a troubled kid who finds a girl at a Christian camp that he attends to dodge going to Juvenile Detention.

I wonder if he ends up becoming Christian, or converting the girl at camp into a hedonist? lol, Netflix
