Whatever You Do! Don't!
Shania Twain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Deep in Denialville
Trynna fight the way I feel
I go jello when you smile
I'd start blushin' my head rushin'
If you stand too close to me
I might melt down from the heat
If ya look my way one more time
I'm gonna go out of my mind
Whatever you do

Don't even think about it
Don't go and get me started
Don't you dare drive me crazy
Don't do that to me baby

You stop me in my tracks
My heart pumpin' to the max
I'm such a sucker for your eyes
They permanently paralyze
Whatever you do

Don't even think about it
Don't go and get me started
Don't you dare drive me crazy
Don't do that to me baby

(Whatever you do, don't do that to me)
You got my heart under attack
You give me shivers down my back
D'ya have to walk the way you do?
I get weak just watchin' you
Whatever you do

Don't even think about it
Don't go and get me started
Don't you dare drive me crazy
Don't do that to me baby

Don't even think about it
Don't go and get me started
Don't you dare drive me crazy
Don't do that to me baby
Don't do that, don't do that

Overall Meaning

In Shania Twain's song "Whatever You Do! Don't!", the singer discusses her struggle with denying her feelings for someone, even though their presence makes her feel weak and like she's about to lose control. She describes being unable to resist their charm, and how they seem to captivate her with just a smile or a look in her direction. She is aware of the effects they have on her, hence why she warns them not to drive her crazy or do anything to intensify the attraction she already feels towards them.

The lyrics particularly express a battle with inner emotions and denying one's feelings for someone. The use of metaphors such as "deep in Denialville" reinforces a sense of reluctance to confront the truth of the matter. Moreover, the chorus - "don't even think about it/don't go and get me started/don't you dare drive me crazy/don't do that to me baby" - is a plea to the person that they not take any actions that will further lure the singer into their sphere of influence.

Overall, the song is a relatable story of battling with one's emotions when the heart is telling you one thing and the mind another. The singer describes the intense physical reactions she encounters when in the presence of the person she's attracted to while trying to deny her desire for them.

“Whatever You Do! Don’t!” is such a sorely underrated track from Shania’s discography. Hopefully she’ll give it some love in Las Vegas. 🤞🏻

I remember Tom getting in character when your song came on the radio Man I feel like a woman, it was hoot to watch, made all of us giggle.

@stoney7690

Both of us over the years have been hit with negative people on our creativity but that never stopped us, you can see that in our films. We always dismissed negative people and went on with filming, that was just our attitude. You will see that maybe happening in the shows I produce, Creative Producers don't change their spots, never will.
