You're Still the One
Shania Twain Lyrics

When I first saw you, I saw love
And the first time you touched me, I felt love
And after all this time
You're still the one I love, mmm, yeah-yeah

Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong, mm

(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight

Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'

They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong

(You're still the one) oh
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight

You're still the one

(Ooh ooh ooh)

Yeah (you're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life, oh yeah
(You're still the one)
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight

I'm so glad we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby

This week my friend told me to watch the Shania Twain documentary on Netflix. I'd come to know of Shanias music through my mum and it got to the point where she released the 'Come On Over' album and those was the album I became aware of this amazing artist back in the 90s.

Today is my parents 33rd wedding anniversary. I remember the year of their marriage 1989 as it's also the year The Simpsons started and both still going strong.

My parents met in the early 80s at school in South London when their single sex schools merged. In 1983 I was born when they were 19 and both sets of parents were understandably unhappy as Windrush generation immigrants to see their children start a family so early opposed to focus on building career. They stayed together and everyone came around to the reality this was their life and support was what was needed.

My parents had seen most if not all their friends relationships breakdown despite having children and said to each other if they were still together by the time they were 24 they'd get married.

In the 33 years of my parents marriage I've seen them argue quite passionately in the early years. There were periods when I wished they'd divorce but when I look at them now I see how a relationship can evolve from being boyfriend and girlfriend who are lovers to partners who are each others friends and a team, enjoying each others company, lending an ear when one I'd finding a day challenging and working to a common goal.

Congratulations to my mum and dad

My husband and I were going to play this on our 50th anniversary in 2024. Unfortunately, he succumbed to dreadful Covid-19 on August 19th 2021. We were 21 and 22 when we got married! We were going strong till then! Miss u lots George!
