The song Dum Dum Dum by Shankar Mahadevan features a unique blend of folk and modern music, which is reflective of the diverse cultural landscape of India. The lyrics of the song are in Telugu, a language spoken in the southern part of India. At first glance, the lyrics appear to be a mishmash of seemingly unrelated phrases, but closer inspection reveals that it is a beautiful ode to life and its infinite possibilities.
The opening line, "dum dum dum nataraju aadali pambaregaliraa" refers to the sound of the drum that is played during traditional dance performances in Andhra Pradesh, a state in southern India. The next line "jandapai kapiraju egarali nela jabilliga" talks about the moon slowly rising in the sky, which is a metaphor for hope and optimism. The following line "gundello guri vunte edagali taarale kalluga" associates the heart with a bird that wants to fly freely. The phrase "nee maate nee baatai sagali sooti sooriduga" in the song means that one should speak words that are pure and true.
The second part of the song talks about the importance of self-discovery and self-realization in life. The phrase "alluri debba thellodi abba thodagotti chupinchara" refers to a mythical horse that is believed to grant wishes, and suggests that we should seek guidance and inspiration from the higher powers. The following lines, "veliginchara lonideepam tholaginchara buddhilopam, aatmera nee janma taara saati manishera nee paramaatma" talk about the importance of spirituality in life and finding the true purpose of one's existence.
Overall, Dum Dum Dum is a beautiful song that celebrates the joys of life and encourages us to embrace the vastness of our own potential.
