Early life and pre-Idol
Noll was born in the Australian town of Orange, New South Wales and grew up in the small town of Condobolin in central western New South Wales. He is the third and youngest of three children to parents Sharon and Neil Noll and along with brothers Damian and Adam, spent the entire of their childhood and teenage years living on the family farm which ran sheep and cattle and grew cereal crops. During his school years, Noll enjoyed drama classes and performed in a number of school productions. Noll has since expressed a desire to continue his acting work.
During his adult years, Noll began working on other farms and properties shearing sheep amongst other tasks. It was during this time Noll and his brothers formed the band called "Cypress" (named for the fact that they rehearsed in a timber mill), of which Shannon provided vocals and played guitar. The band played numerous small gigs around the Australian outback, playing in country pubs gaining a solid live reputation. Although the majority of songs performed by the band were cover versions of popular songs, the group enjoyed writing original music and would often perform these originals as part of their set.
Noll's father, Neil, was tragically killed during a farming accident in 2001, which led to Shannon and his brothers to take over the running of the family farm. Following the death and two years of extreme drought, the brothers sold the farm and settled in Condobolin with their mother. Shannon often cites the death of his father as a major inspiration in his musical career, and has penned a song on his latest album Lift titled "Now I Run" in memorium of his late father.
Noll and his now wife, Rochelle Ogsten began their relationship in 1997 welcoming the arrival of sons Cody in 2001 and Blake in 2002. The pair wed in October 2004 and daughter Sienna arrived in 2006.

You can't go back and make it alright
You never get to choose if you win or lose
That's not how it goes, oh no
I know I had it all
How much more could anyone have?
And now I'm tryin to find what used to be mine
[Chorus]
Everything I wanted
Was everything I left behind
I never knew what I'd lose
And everything I needed
Was standing right in front of me
Now I know that it's true
Everything I wanted was you
How can I explain
Looking back I know I was wrong
I just couldn't see the forest for the trees
What more can I say
[Chorus]
Don't say all our bridges are burned
After all the lessons I've learned
Is there a chance that you could be mine
Or am I wasting my time
Everything I wanted
Everything I dreamed about
Was everything I already had
Everything I wanted
Was everything I left behind
I never knew what I'd lose
And everything I wanted
Was standing right in front of me
Now I know that it's true
Everything I needed
And everything I wanted
Now I know that it's true
Everything I wanted
Was you
The lyrics to Shannon Noll's song "Everything I Wanted" are about reflecting on the past and realizing that what the singer truly wanted and needed was right in front of him all along. The first verse discusses how the past cannot be changed and you can't always control the outcomes of situations. The singer then reflects on how he had everything he wanted but lost it when he went away. The chorus reveals that everything he wanted was actually everything he left behind, and he never realized what he had until it was gone. He realizes that what he really needed and wanted was the person in front of him. The second verse demonstrates how he was wrong and couldn't see what he had at the time. He then pleads with the person in the song not to say all the bridges are burned and wonders if there is still a chance for them to be together.
Overall, the song is about realizing the importance of what you have and not taking it for granted. It's about recognizing the value of the things you have and the people around you before it's too late. The song has a somber tone and a regretful quality as the singer reflects on past mistakes.
