Sunflower
Shannon Purser Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rose girls in glass vases
Perfect bodies, perfect faces
They all belong in magazines
Those girls the boys are chasing
Winning all the games they're playing
They're always in a different league

Stretching toward the sky like I don't care
Wishing you could see me standing there

But I'm a sunflower, a little funny
If I were a rose, maybe you'd want me
If I could, I'd change overnight
I'd turn into something you'd like

But I'm a sunflower, a little funny
If I were a rose, maybe you'd pick me
But I know you don't have a clue
This sunflower's waiting for you
Waiting for you

But I'm a sunflower, a little funny
And if I were her, maybe you'd pick me
But I know you don't have a clue

This sunflower's waiting for you
Waiting for you

Overall Meaning

In Shannon Purser's song "Sunflower", the singer reflects on the societal pressures and expectations placed on women to fit into a certain mold of beauty and perfection. The opening verse describes the "rose girls", those with perfect bodies and perfect faces, that seem to belong in magazines and always seem to win. In contrast, the singer sees herself as a "sunflower", a little funny and perhaps odd, not fitting the mold of the traditional rose ideal. She wishes that she could be a rose, that she could change overnight and become something that her object of affection would desire.

The chorus repeats this desire to fit in and be desired, but also acknowledges the fundamental incompatibility between the singer's self-image and what society expects of her. She wishes that she could be a rose, but ultimately she is a sunflower, waiting for someone to appreciate her for who she is. In essence, the song speaks to the struggle of many young women to fit into a narrow definition of beauty and desirability, while also recognizing the inherent value of being true to oneself.

But im a cactus
A little prickly
If i were a lotus
Maybe you'd hold me
Wish I could wilt overnight
Because im something you won't like.

Yes im just a cactus
A little prickly
If I were a lotus
Maybe you'd care for me
But i know you don't give a shit
For this cactus you received as a gift

No thorns in this dimension
Hiding this fear of rejection
This high I never felt so small
Not used to this attention
Permanently in suspension
I wish I didn't care at all

But I'm a dead flower
A little gloomy.
If I were alive
Maybe you'd see me
If I could I'd go back in time
I'll turn into something more bright.

But I'm a dead flower
A little gloomy
If I were alive
Maybe you'd see me
But I know you don't have a clue
This dead flower used to be so blue...
Used to be so blue.

-a dead blue water lily

Charvi Golechha
I know maybe it's too much but I liked your version, so I wrote another version of the sunflower song with my lyrics and yours...
The thing is if you're feeling sad and invisible, just remember that you aren't invisible there's people who sees you perfectly, and who loves you even if you don't see it.

The other lyrics with your lyrics :

Tired boys in the mornings

Hiden bodies hiden faces

They're all acting like machines

Those boys the girls are datin'

Winning all the games they're playin'

They're always in a different league

Sitting next to you like I don't care

Wishing you could see me lying there

But I'm a dead flower, a little gloomy

If I were alive, maybe you'd see me

If I could I'd go back in time

I'll turn into something more bright

But I'm a dead flower, a little gloomy

If I were alive, maybe you'd see me

But I know you don't have a clue

This dead flower used to be so blue,

Used to be so blue

No truth in this dimension, afraid of imperfection

This time I've got my back against the wall

Not used to inattention

Permenently forgotten

I wish I didn't care at all

Sitting next to you like I don't care

Wishing you could see me lying there

But I'm a dead flower, a little gloomy

If I were alive, maybe you'd see me

If I could I'd go back in time

I'll turn into something more bright

But I'm a dead flower, a little gloomy

If I were alive, maybe you'd see me

But I know you don't have a clue

This dead flower used to be so blue,

Used to be so blue

But I'm a dead flower, a little gloomy

If I were alive, maybe you'd see me

But I know you don't have a clue

This dead flower used to be so blue,

Used to be so blue

@@abdulla2670 ya know, when I was feeling like that, only one thing helped me. It's a website call jw.org, it talks about if there's an end to suffering, and when suffering is going to end. It talks about what the purpose for the earth is. And the best part is there is a search button, and u type in any questions u have and answers will pop up about that subject. I think u will like it.

Rose: you think they're only pretty toys to play with, but when you try to pick 'em up, you see that they can fight.
Sunflower: they are pretty in their own way. They're the sweetest and they grow the biggest.
Cactus: they survive in a place where others don't.
Grass: without them ground would look and feel unpleasant.
You have a place in this world. You don't have to be pretty to be special and important.
