Their name was a tribute to Tara Maclean's sister Shaye Martirano who died on May 24, 2002, as the result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident earlier that day on the Trans-Canada Highway in St. Leonard, she was aged 26.

Their 2006 follow up, Lake Of Fire was released on EMI Music Canada. It was exclusively available on iTunes in November 2006, then released physically in February 2007. It was produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Tim Finn, Chantal Kreviazuk) and features songs by Van Morrison, The Waterboys and Ron Sexsmith.
On October 8, 2007, Tara MacLean announced that she was leaving the trio.
After MacLean's departure, Stockwood and Doyle announced on their website they would continue making music together as "Shaye". In 2009 Shaye's official website was redirected to MySpace where it was announced the band was officially no longer together. Kim Stockwood and Damhnait Doyle thanked their fans for all of their support.
Stockwood returned to a solo career while Doyle has formed a new band The Heartbroken which features three of the former members of Shaye's band.

Loud speakers send the sound
Shoots you out just like a satellite
On and on and on and on
Tell me what is it
Charges them up
Far beyond the alcohol
On and on and on and on
Late December, sitting on this balcony
Watching the red sky flickering from afar
Earth has tilted, the whole sky shifted
On and on and on and on
My feet keep walking
Come back body
Come back memory
You know lately friends think I've turned crazy
On and on and on and on
Late December, sitting on this balcony
Watching the red sky flickering from afar
Earth has tilted, the whole sky shifted
On and on and on and on ....
And it feels like I'm flying
And it feels like I'm flying
Late December, sitting on this balcony
Watching the red sky flickering from afar
Earth has tilted, the whole sky shifted
On and on and on and on ....
The song "On And On" by Shaye is a reflective and introspective piece that delves into the sensations and emotions that come with new experiences and self-discovery. The first verse speaks about the dangers of excitement and how it can lead to being burned, both literally and metaphorically. The loud speakers send the sound, and the sparks can burn your hand, which can be interpreted as the overwhelming emotions that come with new experiences. Being shot out like a satellite represents the feeling of being propelled forward on this journey, constantly moving on and on without an end in sight.
In the second verse, the lyrics allude to the power of whatever it is that charges people up, something that goes far beyond alcohol. The line "you can come and burn the rug to cinders" suggests that this feeling is so intense that it can lead to destructive behavior. The chorus repeats the phrase "on and on and on and on," emphasizing the cyclical nature of this journey and the fact that it never really ends.
The third verse describes a moment of reflection, sitting on a balcony and watching the sky change. The sense of disorientation and change is palpable, as the earth tilts and the whole sky shifts. The line "my feet keep walking, come back body, come back memory" suggests a separation between the physical body and the mind, as if the mind is wandering while the body is on autopilot. The final chorus echoes the sentiment of the first, emphasizing the sensation of flying that comes with these experiences.
Overall, "On And On" is a song about the journey of self-discovery, the ups and downs that come with it, and the sense of freedom and exhilaration that can be achieved through new experiences.
