In the Sun
She & Him Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's hard to be ignored
When I look at you
You look so bored
My baby my darling
I've been taking a beating

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's OK
(It's OK)
We all get the slip sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself
In the sun
In the sun

It's hard to take the blame
When I look at you you're so ashamed
My baby my darling
I've been thinking of leaving

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's OK
(It's OK)
We all get the slip sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself
In the sun
In the sun

Well all right
(Well all right)
It's OK
(It's OK)
We all feel ashamed sometimes every day
I'll just keep it to myself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to She & Him's "In the Sun" are quite simple on the surface, but they pack an emotional punch. The singer is looking at their partner, feeling ignored and taking a beating emotionally. They feel like they might be to blame for the issues in their relationship and are considering leaving. Despite all of this, the singer tries to maintain a sense of positivity, repeating "It's OK" multiple times and stating that they'll keep their feelings to themselves. The phrase "In the sun" serves as a motif throughout the song, referencing a brighter, happier place that feels out of reach in the midst of their struggles.

One possible interpretation of these lyrics is a portrait of a relationship that has lost its passion and connection. The singer feels ignored and unimportant to their partner, which causes them emotional pain. This emotional strain has built up to the point that the singer is considering leaving the relationship. However, they also seem to be wrestling with feelings of guilt and self-doubt about their role in the relationship's issues. Despite all of this, the song emphasizes the importance of finding a way to stay positive and hopeful, even in the face of adversity.

Overall, "In the Sun" is a poignant exploration of the complexities of romantic relationships, as well as the importance of finding hope and positivity even in the midst of turmoil.

You have no idea how much the world loves She and Him, Me and my girlfriend live in Malaysia and we've been travelling around the countryside with your music- experiencing joy and enthusiasm with your music, thank you (I mean seriously) so much for giving meaning to the world around us and our lives.

@YuYue8886

are you still alive? I think their music is fine but the dancing? awkward

@eleanortolbert5613

a lot of people say her video's suck but I think they match her personality perfectly

@FM-oj6mr

The video is lovely. What they want? Anaconda or something?
The problem is that nowadays people criticize everything just to look cool. Now they are all "haters". They comment "this video sucks" with no argument just to look cool, as if they could do something better.
Zooey is wonderful, and the video is also wonderful ♥

@KingMarktheShark

Agreed.  Personally, the only times I hear this song is if I'm having Starbuck's and it's on the radio, so the video is supposed to look sophisticated and match that kind of mood.

@lanceearlwoods2625

Fernanda Gwenhwyfar you want a honest argument against this video? the happy tempo and dancing around in the video has kept you from the emotional depth of watching someone you were so close to becoming a stranger

@BeeKee404

Who's saying her videos suck? I will find them and beat them! Clearly they don't appreciate good music!

@KuehneZoneify

Right it totally reminds me of 2009 where people are hipsters from tumblr
