Lover

Doing what lovers do
And then I find I'm back in the line
Addicted to loving you
I can't be around
The people that I once knew
I can't live without
The beauty that is you
I've told all my lies and I've drank all my wine
Watching the dreamers lose
Peaceful and kind the mother of time
I see God in you
I just move around the changing color of time
That won't bring me down
Jasmine of my mind
Jasmine daydream
I can't be around
The killers of my kind
I stop and I think about
Is this where we've gone blind
Please don't go blind
The lyrics to Sheba Potts-Wright's song "Lover" depict the singer's deep devotion and addiction to their lover. The first line, "I've wasted my life on a passionate crime, doing what lovers do" suggests that the singer has prioritized their love life above other areas of their life. They have been engaging in acts of passion that may not have been perceived to be socially acceptable. By saying "doing what lovers do," the singer is justifying their behavior and implying that, in the end, their love and affection is worth the risk.
The following lines, "And then I find I'm back in the line, addicted to loving you," reveals how the singer keeps going back to their lover even though they know it may not be the best decision. They can't resist the addiction they have towards their lover. The singer is so devoted to their lover that they can't be around people whom they once knew or live without the beauty of their lover. The singer feels that their lover makes their life complete, and without them, it would be incomplete.
As the verse continues, the line "I see God in you" expresses how highly the singer regards their lover. They view their partner as a higher power, and they have become their source of peace and happiness. When the singer refers to "the killers of my kind," they might be referring to people who are against interracial relationships, which is the kind of relationship the singer is in. The song concludes by saying that the singer is fearful of losing the love of their life and begging them not to leave because the singer would be lost without them.
