High Hopes
Shed 7 Lyrics

'cause all the while
You're cramping my style cramp my style
Bleeding me dry
Grab a hold grab a hold
To steady your soul
And test if they're real test for real
All the spotlights you shone to help me
Let them lift away
'cause I've got high hopes
I believe
In the roots that keep me complete
And I've got high hopes
All I need
Is your hands to steady my feet steady my feet
You've sunken low sunken low
Its another swift blow
And I know where you've been where have you
So don't feed off my skin
While I test if they're real test for real
All the stories you told to lift me
When good times went astray
Let them lift away
'cause I've got high hopes
I believe
In the roots that keep me complete
And I've got high hopes
All I need
Is your hands to steady my feet
We will lift away
'cause I've got high hopes
I believe
In the roots that keep me complete
And I've got high hopes
All I need
Is your hands to steady my feet
The lyrics to Shed 7's song "High Hopes" speak to the struggle of maintaining a relationship and staying true to oneself. The first verse sets the scene: the singer is feeling suffocated by someone else's expectations and needs to break free. The line "bleeding me dry" suggests that this person is draining the singer emotionally and perhaps financially as well. The second line of the verse, "grab a hold to steady your soul," is directed towards the other person, who needs to find their own stability instead of relying on the singer. The chorus then comes in, asserting the singer's belief in the "roots that keep me complete" and their "high hopes" for the future.
The second verse addresses the other person's struggles as well, with the line "you've sunken low." This could mean that the other person is feeling depressed or struggling in some way, and the singer is trying to encourage them to find their own strength. The line "don't feed off my skin" could suggest that the other person is a bit of a parasite, relying on the singer for their own nourishment rather than finding it within themselves. The final lines of the song, "we will lift away," suggest a mutual resolution to these conflicts, with both parties moving towards a healthier, more independent future together.

I would like to dedicate this awesome record to our family dog Sam, who tragically got put down yesterday 25th Nov 2019 age just ten. He was a fox red labrador who had chronic joint problems front back and hips, so at his age there was nothing to be done without putting him through hell without a guarantee of success, he was an absolute star a joy to everyone who knew him best. For those dog lovers among you, who has had to do something like this I know you understand the heartbreak this has caused he was a gentile soul a treasured member of the family, my mother is inconsolable at the moment. In time we will remember him fondly and with smiles as a young dog he was a rascal who ran the gauntlet on a couple of occasions by eating rubbish one time sharp plastic that nearly killed him, luckily we have a good vet. Anyway i wanted to put this in writing to hopefully aid my pain and pay my respect to him he got us through some dark times as a family. In his younger days we spent several holidays around the beaches of North Wales I believe this to be where he was happiest so I'm hoping his spirit will find his way back there. Thanks to anyone who reads this and God bless you all. Rip Sammy the dog I pray I will see you again someday boy, your loving friend Graham. Xxx
