Born on the 14th March 1965, as a teenager she formed the band Monsoon, and created a fusion of Western and Indian pop styles. She married Steve Coe, who became the band's producer, and along with Martin Smith, the band became a trio. They made a single album, Third Eye, in 1982, from which they had a surprise hit single "Ever So Lonely". However, resenting pressure from their record company over musical direction, Monsoon as a band dissolved and Coe and Smith set about promoting Chandra as a solo artist on an independent label.
Chandra went on to release a number of albums in the 1980s, experimenting with her voice as an instrument. In the 1990s she released three albums on Peter Gabriel's Real World label, although Martin Smith ceased to be actively involved.
In 1996 she provided vocals for a cover of Prodigy's hit "Smack My Bitch Up". In 2002 she performed the song "Breath of Life" with Howard Shore for the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers soundtrack.
She is no longer able to record, having developed "burned mouth syndrome" in 2010, which makes speech and singing so painful that she is effectively mute.

Sheila Chandra Lyrics

Ever so lonely without you
Ever so lonely
Sink into your eyes and all I see
Love is an ocean
And you for me
Your eyes
Are all I see
Your love is an ocean
An ocean refuses no river
Ever so lonely
An ocean refuses no river
Waiting for the time when we can be alone together
Alone together
Eternally
The ocean, the ocean
Refuses no river
The ocean, your ocean
Refuses no river
Ever so lonely
Ever so lonely without you
Your ocean
Your ocean
Refuses no river
The song "Ever So Lonely" by Sheila Chandra is an emotional expression of missing someone dearly. The repetition of the phrase "Ever so lonely" conveys the feeling of emptiness and a void that has been left behind in the absence of a loved one. According to Chandra, the song was inspired by personal experience and the lyrics were written during a period of intense emotion.
The metaphor of "love is an ocean" is used throughout the song, suggesting the depth and vastness of the love between the singer and the person she is missing. The phrase "An ocean refuses no river" reinforces this metaphor, suggesting that their love is unconditional and all-encompassing. The longing for togetherness is conveyed through the line "Waiting for the time when we can be alone together, alone together, eternally", indicating a desire for an eternal bond that cannot be broken.
Overall, the song is a poignant and beautiful expression of love and longing that speaks to the heart of anyone who has experienced the pain of separation from a loved one.
