Hit it
This ain't no disco
And it ain't no country club either
This is L.A.

All I want to do is have a little fun before I die
Says the man next to me out of nowhere
It's apropos of nothing he says his name is William
But I'm sure he's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy

And he's plain ugly to me, and I wonder if he's ever
Had a day of fun in his whole life

We are drinking beer at noon on Tuesday
In the bar that faces the giant car wash
And the good people of the world
Are washing their cars on their lunch breaks
Hosing and scrubbing as best they can
In skirts and suits

They drive their shiny Datsun's and Buick's
Back to the phone company, the record store, too
Well, they're nothing like Billy and me

'Cause all I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over
Santa Monica Boulevard

I like a good beer buzz, early in the morning
And Billy likes to peel the labels from his bottles of Bud
He shreds them on the bar then he lights every match
In an over-sized pack letting each one burn
Down to his thick fingers before blowing and
Cursing them out, he's watching
The bottles of Bud as they spin on the floor

And a happy couple enters the bar
Dangerously, close to one another
The bartender looks up from his wanted ads

But all I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over
Santa Monica Boulevard

Otherwise the bar is ours
The day and the night
And the car wash, too
The matches and the Bud's
And the clean and dirty cars
The sun and the moon

But, all I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling I'm not the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
I got a feeling the party has just begun
All I wanna do is have some fun
I won't tell you that you're the only one
All I wanna do is have some fun
Until the sun comes up over
Santa Monica Boulevard

Until the sun comes up over
Santa Monica Boulevard

Overall Meaning

In Sheryl Crow's song All I Wanna Do, the singer is having a drink with a man named William, who she perceives as plain and ugly. The two are drinking in a bar that faces a giant car wash and observing the "good people of the world" washing their cars on their lunch breaks. Despite being in the middle of the day, the singer wants to have a little fun and is convinced she is not the only one. She likes a good beer buzz in the morning, and William likes to peel the labels off his bottles of Bud and light matches, letting them burn down to his fingers. As the scene unfolds, a happy couple enters the bar, and the bartender looks up from his wanted ads, but the singer is more focused on having a good time.

The lyrics of All I Wanna Do are about finding joy in the mundane moments of life. The car wash is a metaphor for the repetitive and dull nature of daily life, and the happy couple represents the potential of finding happiness and love amidst the monotony. The song advocates for living life to the fullest, even if it means having a little fun in the middle of a workday.

Overall, Sheryl Crow's All I Wanna Do is a fun-loving song that encourages listeners to let go of their worries and have some fun in their lives.

My brother loved this song he sang this song to me in the hospital a few days before he died in 95 we were laughing so hard though. He was so weak but got up dancing singing telling stories to me, his little sis who he came to spend the last month of his life with ❤️ this song brings me great memories during the hardest loss of my life. Thank you Sheryl much L & R
