Vampires
Shihad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Of all the empires left to sing about
You're on your way now, there can be no doubt
With the vampires, and the nobodies

You wander round
Don't know who you are
Underground or a shining star
Spinning all round your head

Cover your eyes
Try to block it out
All we've been through
All we've been without

We'll leave em something they can talk about when it's over,
Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over

Treading landmines
Getting knocked about
All your allies have started thinning out
And you can't hide, getting older

You wander round
People come and go
You run aground like everyone you know
All the vampires, please leave

Cover your eyes, try to block it out
All your insides want to scream and shout

We'll leave em something they can talk about when it's over
Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over

When you think that you'e alone
Its the same everyone you know
When there's no way out
You turn it round
And carry on...

When it's over...

You're on your way now, there can be no doubt
We'll leave em something they can talk about

Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over when it's over

Time, it ain't over when it's over
Time, it ain't over

Overall Meaning

The song Vampires by Shihad talks about the struggles and challenges that come with fame and success. The lyrics are about the price of success and all the sacrifices one has to make in order to maintain their place on the top. The "Vampires" mentioned in the song can be interpreted as the people or the industry that have taken advantage of the artists' success and the "nobodies" as the ones who are being left behind. The lyrics then goes on to describe how the artist feels lost and unsure of themselves as they try to navigate through the fame and the expectations of the people around them. The line "Cover your eyes, try to block it out" suggests that despite it all, the artist tries to shield themselves from the pressures that come with their job.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of leaving a mark and creating something that people will talk about even after it's over. The lyrics "Time, it ain't over when it's over" suggests that the legacy an artist leaves behind will continue even after they're gone. The artist tries to find solace in the fact that they are not alone in their struggles, and that everyone they know has gone through the same thing. The song ends with a message of hope and determination; the artist acknowledges that despite the difficulties they face, they will continue to carry on and strive for success.

The best song on an underrated album. It shits me how they kinda got panned for Beautiful Machine. To me it was just further proof that this band can nail so many styles. Alway changing and evolving. Jons best vocals on this record too.
