Devour
Shinedown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take it and take it and take it and take it all
Take it and take it and take it until you take us all
Smash it and crash it and thrash it and trash it
You know they're only toys
Try it you'll like, it don't hide it, don't fight it, just let it out
Steal and shoot it and kill it or take another route
Take it and take it and take it
You know they're only toys

Devour, devour
Suffocate you own empire
Devour, devour
It's your final hour
Devour, devour
Stolen like a foreign soul
Devour, devour
What a way to go!

You want it, you want it, you want it
Well here it is
Everything, everything ,everything
Isn't so primitive

Take it and take it and take it and take it and take it all
Nobody, nobody wants to feel like this
Nobody, nobody wants to live like this
Nobody, nobody wants a war like this

Devour, devour
Suffocate you own empire
Devour, devour
It's your final hour
Devour, devour
Stolen like a foreign soul
Devour, devour
What a way to go!

Diving down, round and round [Repeat: x2]

Devour, devour
Suffocate you own empire
Devour, devour
It's your final hour
Devour, devour
Stolen like a foreign soul
Devour, devour
What a way to go!

Devour, devour
Suffocate you own empire
Devour, devour
It's your final hour
Devour, devour
Stolen like a foreign soul
Devour, devour
What a way to go!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Shinedown's song Devour express the idea of human beings' destructive nature and how we ruin everything we touch, including our own existence. The song begins with a repetition of "Take it and take it and take it and take it all" which can be interpreted as humans' insatiable desire to take and consume everything without any regard for the consequences. The lyrics also mention how we smash, crash, thrash, and trash things that are only toys, which can be a metaphor for how we treat the world around us. The second verse talks about stealing, shooting, killing or taking another route, which could imply that we have a choice to either continue on this path of destruction or choose a different, more peaceful path.

The chorus "Devour, devour, suffocate your own empire, It's your final hour, stolen like a foreign soul, what a way to go" can be interpreted as a warning against continuing down the path of destruction. The concept of "suffocating your own empire" could be a metaphor for how our own actions end up destroying everything we've built, leaving us with nothing. Furthermore, the line "stolen like a foreign soul" suggests that we are not the rightful owners of this world and that we have taken too much from it, leading us to an inevitable downfall. The "diving down, round, and round" can be interpreted as a descent into the chaos that we have created.

Overall, the song's message is a warning about the consequences of our actions, and how if we continue to take and destroy without any regard for the consequences, we will eventually fall and lose everything.

Michael Stanislaus still is

@drizzt102

@@evanbiter5969 thats a bit much. If put ronnie james dio, rob halford, joakim from sabaton, bruce dickinson, and Rise Against's vocalist (names escape me its early here). But i also admit i got a thing for audience engagement too and its thst combination that makes the magic. Brent has that and thats why hes up there with my top favorites.

Freddy is another tier all his own though. Thats its own separate thing.

So glad that this was used in "The Final Destination" (2009)! ❤️

@davsny5

This song juxtaposed to the race cars and the awesome opening credits were the best things about FD4 or The Final Destination 3D.

@strider9471

@@davsny5 FD4 was a terrible movie lmao. But I was definitely hooked at the beginning, and I'm glad FD4 did something right by introducing me to shinedown
