Outcast
Shinedown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's in the air
So get your head right
Crawling through the sand
Making noise, crackin' dynamite
And I've been thinkin' 'bout the past I can't ignore
Nothing less, nothing more
It's all the same as before
I'm just feeding my appetite (I'm just feeding my appetite)

It's in the ground
Underneath
Tied up, tweaked out inherently
And I've been swimming in the new millennium
Run, run, here I come
I'm just having some fun
I'm just feeding my appetite

Don't you know I broke the mold?
Like a hammer to a landmine
You better stick to what you know
'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind

I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast

It's all around
But you're in no shape
Pacing back and forth, looking low, feeling out of place
I been watching every minute like a casualty, bonafide misery
It's no conspiracy
I'm just feeding my appetite (I'm just feeding my appetite)

Don't you know I broke the mold?
Like a hammer to a landmine
You better stick to what you know
'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind

I got it
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast

Don't you know I broke the mold?
Like a hammer to a landmine
You better stick to what you know
'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind

I got it
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast
I'm comin' back

I'm comin' back
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast

Overall Meaning

In the song "Outcast," Shinedown is addressing the pressure to conform to societal norms, while also acknowledging their own individuality and breaking of the mold. Starting with the first verse, the lyrics "It's in the air, So get your head right, Crawling through the sand, Making noise, crackin' dynamite" suggest a feeling of rebellion and a desire to escape the restrictions placed on them. The following lines reflect on the past: "And I've been thinkin' 'bout the past I can't ignore, Nothing less, nothing more, It's all the same as before, I'm just feeding my appetite." The repetition of "it's all the same as before" implies that nothing has changed and that the character is stuck in a cycle. However, they are content with it, as long as they are satisfying their own desires.

Moving on to the next verse, the lyrics "It's in the ground, Underneath, Tied up, tweaked out inherently, And I've been swimming in the new millennium, Run, run, here I come, I'm just having some fun, I'm just feeding my appetite" continue the theme of non-conformity. The "new millennium" represents a chance for change, while "swimming" suggests a feeling of being immersed in it. The repetition of "I'm just having some fun" emphasizes that they aren't trying to harm anyone; they are just living their life and doing what feels right to them.

The chorus, "Don't you know I broke the mold? Like a hammer to a landmine, You better stick to what you know, 'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind," sends a message to those around them that they are different and aren't going to change. The comparisons to a "hammer to a landmine" imply that they may cause unexpected change or destruction, and that others should be cautious around them. The last verse, "It's all around, But you're in no shape, Pacing back and forth, looking low, feeling out of place, I been watching every minute like a casualty, bonafide misery, It's no conspiracy, I'm just feeding my appetite," suggests that others are struggling with the same feelings of non-conformity but are too afraid to act on them.

Overall, "Outcast" is a song about individuality and the pressure to conform. The lyrics show that Shinedown stands out from the norm, and while they acknowledge the difficulty of doing so, they refuse to change. The song encourages listeners to embrace their own individuality and to not be afraid to break the mold.

Shinedown

🎵Esta en el aire
It's in the air

Así que entiende bien
So get your head right

Arrastrándose por la arena
Crawling through the sand

Haciendo ruido, rompiendo dinamita
Making noise, crackin' dynamite

Y he estado pensando en el pasado que no puedo ignorar
And I've been thinkin' 'bout the past I can't ignore

Nada menos nada más
Nothing less, nothing more

Es todo lo mismo que antes
It's all the same as before

Solo estoy alimentando mi apetito (solo estoy alimentando mi apetito)
I'm just feeding my appetite (I'm just feeding my appetite)

Esta en el suelo
It's in the ground

Debajo
Underneath

Atado, ajustado inherentemente
Tied up, tweaked out inherently

Y he estado nadando en el nuevo milenio
And I've been swimming in the new millennium

Corre, corre, aquí vengo
Run, run, here I come

Solo me estoy divirtiendo
I'm just having some fun

Solo estoy alimentando mi apetito
I'm just feeding my appetite

¿No sabes que rompí el molde?
Don't you know I broke the mold?

Como un martillo a una mina terrestre
Like a hammer to a landmine

Será mejor que te quedes con lo que sabes
You better stick to what you know

Porque no estoy jugando solo para rebobinar
'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind

Regreso
I'm comin' back

Regreso
I'm comin' back

Regreso para sobrevivir a cada paria
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast

Regreso
I'm comin' back

Regreso
I'm comin' back

Regreso para sobrevivir a cada paria
I'm comin' back to outlast every outcast

Es todo alrededor
It's all around

Pero no estás en forma
But you're in no shape

Caminando de un lado a otro, luciendo bajo, sintiéndose fuera de lugar
Pacing back and forth, looking low, feeling out of place

He estado mirando cada minuto como una baja, una miseria de buena fe
I been watching every minute like a casualty, bonafide misery

No es una conspiración
It's no conspiracy

Solo estoy alimentando mi apetito (solo estoy alimentando mi apetito)
I'm just feeding my appetite (I'm just feeding my appetite)

¿No sabes que rompí el molde?
Don't you know I broke the mold?

Como un martillo a una mina terrestre
Like a hammer to a landmine

Será mejor que te quedes con lo que sabes
You better stick to what you know

Porque no estoy jugando solo para rebobinar
'Cause I ain't playing just to rewind

Entiendo

Shinddown is by far my favorite band. At 53 years young, I've been a rocker for a long time. Growing up in days of corporate rock, Led Zeplin, Black Sabbath, Boston, Kansas, Stick, Foreigner, and the like. This band is impressive, with the range of, classy lyrics and musical arrangement's. Keep the music coming guys. It's gets better with every album. ROCK STEADY!
