Unity
Shinedown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I found a note with your name
And a picture of us
Even though it was framed
And covered in dust
It's the map in my mind that sends me on my way

They say it's never too late
To stop being afraid
And there is no one else here
So why should I wait?
And in the blink of an eye the past begins to fade

So have you ever been caught in a sea of despair?
And your moment of truth
Is the day that you say "I'm not scared"

Put your hands in the air
If you hear me out there
I've been looking for you day and night
Shine a light in the dark
Let me see where you are
'Cause I'm not gonna leave you behind

If I told you that you're not alone
And I show you this is where you belong
Put your hands in the air
One more time

I've seen a million miles
Met a million faces
Took all I knew
To reach all these places
And I'd do it again
If it brings me back to you

So have you ever been caught in a sea of despair?
And your moment of truth
Is the day that you say "I'm not scared"

Put your hands in the air
If you hear me out there
I've been looking for you day and night
Shine a light in the dark
Let me see where you are
'Cause I'm not gonna leave you behind

If I told you that you're not alone
And I show you this is where you belong
Put your hands in the air
One more time

Put your hands in the air

Put your hands in the air
If you hear me out there
I've been looking for you day and night
Shine a light in the dark
Let me see where you are
'Cause I'm not gonna leave you behind

If I told you that you're not alone
And I show you this is where you belong
Put your hands in the air
One more time

Put your hands in the air
One more time

Overall Meaning

"Unity" by Shinedown is a song about searching for connection and finding hope in a dark and lonely place. In the first verse, the singer discovers a photo and a note that reminds him of a lost love. Despite the distance and the passage of time, his memories provide him with a sense of direction and purpose. The chorus is an invitation to anyone who feels alone and afraid to join him in the search for unity. The repetition of "put your hands in the air" serves as a rallying cry, urging listeners to come together and support one another. The second verse reinforces the idea that the search for connection is worth the struggles and hardships that come with it, and that it's possible to find a way back to those we have lost. Ultimately, the song is about persevering through adversity and trusting that there is strength in unity.

Overall, "Unity" is an uplifting and empowering song that inspires listeners to find hope and connection in the midst of their struggles. It's a reminder that even when we feel lost and alone, there is always a way to find our way back to where we belong.

Rock is not about how hard it sounds, it's about the message that it sends, this song is supposed to say that no matter how lonely you feel, there is always someone out there who cares about you. I think that is a message we all should take to heart.

I went to a Nickelback concert and Shinedown opened. I walked away thinking all about the opening band. Still feel the same. These guys understand what it means to overcome the storms life throws at you. Real, honest and gritty.

Oh my god my two Favourite bands in one concert!!!! I missed it!!!!!

That must have been bad for Nickelback. Hard to believe some crazy promoter thought Nickelback could follow Shinedown. It's incredibly hard to follow Shinedown and not be upstaged, and if anyone can do it it sure isn't Nickelback.

Me,as well.Was a awesome concert!
