Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Jackie Will Save Me
Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Summer soul and solace
The world is watching..
Vicious circle
Washing virgin halo
You're in agreement..
You can understand
Enter static
A grey mistake
So you both come crashing over ground
New machines have born their notion
What can I say...you're crazy
Jackie, what's the problem'
You're a lady
You can stop them
Where's your baby?
He's alone...
Kennedy
Your Kennedy
All the constant
Super color motion
Burning senses
I think you're slipping
American coca-cola
Sugar sweetness
1963..
The lyrics of "Jackie Will Save Me" by Shiny Toy Guns are open to interpretation as they feel abstract and ethereal. The song begins with the imagery of early morning and summer soul, creating a mood of something new and fresh, just starting out. The line ‘The world is watching’ brings in the idea of being under scrutiny, with someone or something observing what is happening. The second verse is much more cryptic, with the mention of a ‘vicious circle’ and washing a virgin halo. It is as if the singer is trying to clear their name and start anew, but the past is still clinging to them.
The bridge brings in the theme of static, and a mistake being made, leading to a crash onto ground. The new machines mentioned in the lyrics signify the changing times and how the singer is struggling to make their place in the world. All of this seems to lead to a feeling of frustration, with the singer exclaiming ‘What can I say...you’re crazy’.
The chorus is where the story takes a more interesting turn. The singer questions Jackie about her problems, and how she can stop them since she’s a lady. The mention of her baby being alone brings in a sense of danger, and the final mention of Kennedy throws back to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The political references in the song suggest that the singer’s problems are not their own, but rather something that has been brought onto them by outside forces.
