She now resides in Monaco and has recently sold her London apartment. Many of its furnishings were auctioned for charity. Two very popular 'Audiences With Shirley Bassey' have aired on British TV, the most recent being in March 2006.
In 2006, UK retailer Marks and Spencer hired Bassey for their Christmas advertising campaign, with Dame Shirley singing a cover of P!nk's 'Get the Party Started'.
In late 2009 Bassey released 'The Performance' her first studio album for two decades, which was released in a maelstrom of anticipation. Still popular well into one of the longest and most illustrious musical careers in British and indeed international history, Bassey is considered by Brits to be a national treasure.
Don't Cry For Me Argentina

When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done
You won't believe me, all you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you
I had to let it happen, I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom, running around trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to
Don't cry for me, Argentina
The truth is, I never left you
All through my wild days, my mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions, they're not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you, and hope you love me
Don't cry for me, Argentina
Don't cry for me, Argentina
The truth is, I never left you
All through my wild days, my mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know
That every word is true
The song "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" by Shirley Bassey is a soulful ballad that depicts a woman's personal struggles, sacrifices, and reflection on love and life. The lyrics depict the singer's attempt to explain her feelings to a former lover, whom she still loves after all she has done. The line, "That I still need your love after all that I've done," suggests that maybe the singer was less than faithful and that despite her past actions, she still desires love and affection. The line, "Although she's dressed up to the nines, at sixes and sevens with you," indicates that although she looks good, she is still struggling with the relationship's issues.
The singer then goes on to explain her life's journey, stating that she ran away from the things she knew to find freedom and try new things. Still, none of them impressed her. She then reassures her former lover that she never left Argentina and that she was true to her word. She implores him not to keep his distance as she still loves him.
The last two stanzas seem to emphasize that fame, fortune, and other material gains are not enough to satisfy the soul. The singer realizes that she had the answer to her happiness all along, and that is her lover's affection. She has said all she can say, and she hopes that he sees the truth of her words.

Carolyn, Thank-you for your wonderful comment and feedback. These types of videos do take a while to generate, but I like working them to completion. I changed it over and over again but to me it still doesn't seem quite right. Oh well! I personally think Eva Peron is one of the most interesting international figures of the 20th century, and it's a tragedy that her life was cut so short. Who knows what she would have accomplished if she had more time....
