Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Shirley Bassey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He's tall and he's dark,
And like a shark, he looks for trouble,
That's why the zero's double,
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

He's suave and he's smooth
And he can soothe you like vanilla.
The gentleman's a killer.
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Damoiselles and danger
Have filled the stranger's past.
Like a knife he cuts thro' life
Like ev'ry day's the last.

He's fast and he's cool.
He's from the school that loves and leaves 'em,
A pity if it grieves 'em.
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's not a fool.

Oh, damoiselles and danger
Have filled the stranger's past.
Like the knife he cuts thro' life
Like ev'ry day's the last.

He's fast and he's cool.
He's from the school that loves and leaves 'em,
A pity if it grieves 'em.
Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's not a fool.
No, he's no fool.

He's no fool.
He is no fool.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Shirley Bassey's song "Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" paint a vivid picture of a dangerous and mysterious man. The first verse describes him as tall, dark, and looking for trouble, with a double zero nickname to match his danger. In the second verse, we learn that he is also smooth and charming, able to lull even his targets into a false sense of security with his vanilla-like soothing. Despite this, the chorus warns that the stranger's past is filled with both damsels and danger, and that he cuts through life like every day is his last. His school of love and leave 'em plays a part in his attitude towards relationships, with the singer questioning whether it would be a pity if it grieved his former loves.

The song's lyrics are rich in imagery and suggest that the man in question might be some sort of spy or criminal, with a chaotic past that is every bit as thrilling as his current exploits. The warning in the chorus, that this man is no fool, is a reminder that even someone as capable and dangerous as Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang may have their limits.

It's NOT ''a rendition of Thunderball'.

What it is IS Mr Kiss-Kiss - Bang-Bang.

It's a separate - UN-réglettes track.

The reason was it was a possible title for (this) film, and it's taken Ferrum what Bond was known as in Japan, i.e., Mr kiss-kiss, bang-bang.

The word, 'rendition' pretty much means a variation, performance...a depiction. A rendition of the Thunderball theme works be the version of it played just by the orchestra, entitled At The Casino - played when Bond alights Ferrum the boat dressed in his tuxedo (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8855330573089E44).

The reason the song "Mr. Kiss Bang Bang" was not replaced as the main title song of Thunderball" had nothing to do with the quality of the song or of the recording with Dionne Warwick. The United Artists studio, who released the Bond movies, insisted, after the original titles were completed, that the title song feature the actual name of the movie. So John Barry and Don Black quickly wrote the song "Thunderball" and recorded it with Tom Jones and edited it into the film. Barry also rewrote some of the film's scoring to include the theme of the new song.
Incidentally, Shirley Bassey was suing the producers over being replaced by Dionne Warwick so it was probably an extra benefit to them to replace the whole song altogether. "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" remained in some if the film's underscoring and was featured as an instrumental track on the soundtrack album. Bassey's original recording and Warwick's revised version were never heard by the public until 1990 when they were released on CD.

just watched it last night. Dionne Warwick version is better. probably the best collection of hotties for any Bond film

She can't even pronounce 'bang'! Which is ironic. Not surprised she was suing; another Connery mentality; a narcissist to the end and back! Love Dionne's version. Barry had three days to co-write and record and because of that the Thunderball song lacks those three dimensional musical elements that would have been present had United Artists given John more time.

markhh........sorry but you are WRONG!! 'Mr Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' was originally written as the main title theme of 'Thunderball' by John Barry and LESLIE BRICUSSE [NOT Don Black]. Shirley Bassey was chosen to sing it. However, Ms Bassey was unavailable so Dionne Warwick recorded it instead.
When Shirley Bassey heard about this, she immediately sued the film producers and the song was removed from the opening of the film. [Barry and Bricusse had to hurriedly write another song - 'Thunderball' - which was recorded by Tom Jones and this became the main title song instead].
However, 'Mr Kiss Kiss, Bang bang' - which in my opinion is a brilliant piece of music - is still actually featured as backing soundtrack during the 'Jambalaya' scene - when Bond is dancing and trying to seduce Fiona Volpe at the 'Kiss Kiss' Club.

I love this rendition of Thunderball. Bassey has a more seductive voice than Warwick. Her voice blends perfectly with John Barry's score.
