1) Shoes is an American power pop band that brothers John Murphy and Jeff Murphy alongside Gary Klebe formed in Zion, Illinois in 1974. Picking up a cult following among power pop fans from their mellow, new wave inspired rock. they've incorporated several different drummers over the years, including Barry Shumaker, Skip Meyer, Ric Menck, John Richardson, and Jeff Hunter. The band are perhaps best known for their critically acclaimed albums 'Present Tense' and 'Tongue Twister', together praised by Allmusic in particular as setting them "apart from other bands of their era" with "delicious melodies".
When MTV went on the air on August 1, 1981, the channel aired four of Shoes' videos: "Too Late", "Tomorrow Night", "Cruel You" and "In My Arms Again". Thus, the programmers chose Shoes to be one of the first bands to be shown on MTV. Their total discography includes: the 'Heads or Tails EP' (1974), 'One in Versailles' (1975), 'Bazooka' (1975), 'Black Vinyl Shoes' (1977), 'Present Tense' (1979), 'Tongue Twister' (1981), 'Silhouette' (1984), 'Boomerang' (1982), 'Shoes Best' (1987), 'Stolen Wishes' (1990), 'Propeller' (1994), 'Fret Buzz' (1995), 'As Is' (1996), 'Double Exposure' (2007), and 'Ignition' (2012). Band member Jeff Murphy also released a solo album titled 'Cantilever' in 2007.
'Ignition', their first album in 18 years, was released on August 14, 2012, and it included 15 all-new songs:
" Head vs. Heart"
" The Joke's On You"
" Diminishing Returns"
" Heaven Help Me"

" Hot Mess"
" Where Will It End"
" Say It Like You Mean It"
" I Thought You Knew"
" Nobody To Blame"

'Cause you're the one that I need
Don't say goodbye
You know you're special to me
All the time, tell me why, all the time
I can't show what I feel do you know what I mean
What do you say
Wait 'til tomorrow night
How can I wait until tomorrow night
Don't let it die
Just say to me that you'll try
Don't let it die
Just think it over tonight
All your love, is enough, all your love
It's so hard to tell though I know you so well
If you show me then I'd know for sure
How do you feel about tomorrow night
It could be real so right tomorrow night
Don't say goodbye
'Cause you're the one that I need
Don't let it die
You know you're special to me
All your love, is enough, all your love
I can't show what I feel do you know what I mean
I get restless inside in the night
Where will we be this time tomorrow night
Will it be me you love tomorrow night
What will you say tomorrow night
How can I wait tomorrow night
Just a few more hours tomorrow night
Why do you say tomorrow night
Please think it over tomorrow night
In Shoes' song Tomorrow Night, the lyrics are a plea to a loved one to not let the relationship fail, and to give it another chance. The singer is expressing how they feel restless and unable to show their feelings, but they know that the other person is special to them. The chorus repeats the request for the loved one to not say goodbye, and to not let the relationship die. The song builds up to a moment of tension, and the final lines leave the listener wondering what will happen “tomorrow night”.
The lyrics are simple yet emotive, and the repetition of the chorus adds to the sense of urgency and pleading. The singer is vulnerable, and the listener can empathize with their desire to make the relationship work. The imagery of “restless inside every night”, “just a few more hours tomorrow night” and “please think it over tomorrow night” creates a sense of time ticking away and impending decision that needs to be made.
Overall, Tomorrow Night is a poignant love song that captures the angst and confusion of a relationship that is on the brink of collapse. The singer is trying to hold on to what they have, but there is a feeling of inevitability about what is going to happen. The lyrics leave the listener with a sense of uncertainty and a yearning for resolution.

These guys wrote songs with killer hooks. Can’t believe they didn’t find a bigger audience. They deserved far more success than they got.

Shoes undeniably great-- soothing, ethereal music predating The Shins(another great band) by 20 or so odd years--these guys had a lot going for them I appreciate the fact that they weren't popular--maybe they didn't make a lot of money but they sure have die hard fans! Shoes!

Such awesome music! I grew up in the 70s, and yes, in some ways it was a super sexy and happy time for young people. So glad I was there. The Shoes were such a great band. My then boyfriend and I saw them live a few times. Really great memories!
Collier White
Such an underrated band. The joy of playing and invention in every one of these tight pop songs!

What a great band. A shame they aren't more well known.

I can't agree more. This band should have been HUGE. It just goes to show what good marketing will do. These guys fell into the same trap that ensnared many that should have made it big. Case in point, the Smithereens. I used to listen to an alternative station in Atlanta during the '80s and the Shoes got heavy airplay. Perfect sounds. Great chemistry. They had a song called "The Yachting Type" I'd love to hear if anyone has it to post.
