Shooter Jennings lived his first few years in a crib on his parents' tour bus. By age five, he was playing drums. Between tours, he took piano lessons. He started playing guitar at fourteen and sometimes played in his father's band. He and his father recorded a few things together when they happened to have some microphones set up and the tape recorder plugged in. At age sixteen, Jennings discovered rock 'n' roll.
As an adult, Jennings left Nashville, Tennessee to seek his fortunes in Los Angeles. He assembled and performed with Stargunn, a southern rock band whose sound he described as Lynyrd Skynyrd mutating into Guns N' Roses. Stargunn performed at local clubs for six years, built a rabid following and earned praise from the local music press. But the Hollywood party scene eventually began to bother him. He says, "I was posing as a rocker—a country guy trying to be something he wasn't."
On March 30, 2003, Jennings dissolved Stargunn and moved to New York City to spend time with his girlfriend and sort out what he wanted to do next. An unexpected gig at the House of Blues a few weeks later revived his creativity. He returned to Los Angeles to form another band, the 357s. After six weeks in the studio, he completed his first solo album, Put the O Back in Country. Universal South released the album in early 2005.
Jennings portrayed his father in the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line. He is the host of Shooter Jennings' Electric Rodeo, a two-hour weekly music show on Sirius Satellite Radio's Outlaw Country channel. He currently dates Drea de Matteo. Shooter Jennings' second solo album "Electric Rodeo" was released on April 04, 2006.

Shooter Jennings Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My daddy came to me
Said, son out in this world
There's alot of things that are gonna make you feel like you're supposed to be
You don't have to read the good book
Be a good man just the same
And forget about the money
Money ain't brought nothin' to your daddy but pain
Chorus:
It Aint Easy
It Ain't Easy
But You'll Be Alright
Now it's fifteen years later
And I'm out on the road
And it's been four years to the day since he died and they won't even play us on the radio
And I think i found my way alright
Without him here to catch me now and again
I just keep on moving along keeping my mind on my song and trying to play about love
Chorus
Any other fool
Any other fool would throw this away
Any other fool
Wanna take a minute to thank you
for all the things that you've done
Yeah you gave me a light in the dark of the night
When there was no where to hide no where to run
Chorus
The song Living Proof by Shooter Jennings is a poignant tribute to his late father, the legendary country singer Waylon Jennings. In the opening verse, Shooter reflects on a conversation he had with his father when he was a child, where his father advised him to focus on being a good person rather than just reading the Bible. He also tells him to not prioritize money, as it only caused pain for him. The chorus of the song emphasizes that life isn't always easy, but one will be able to get through it.
In the second verse, Shooter acknowledges that it has been 15 years since his father passed away, and he is now pursuing his musical career on the road. He expresses a sense of pride that he has found his own way, but recognizes the support and guidance his father provided him. He continues to move forward, stay true to his songwriting and express his love for others. Finally, the song concludes with gratitude to his father for all he has done.
The song is a powerful reminder that we should focus on what is truly important in life, such as being a good person and following our passions, rather than just seeking material goods. It also reinforces the idea that while life may be tough, we can persevere through it with the support of those around us.
