Jack The Ripper
Short Stack Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'd never seen her like this before
Then we kissed and I cut myself open
And I never
Ever loved another like this
It was bliss as she said with a smile
I'm gonna die a believer:
I'm gonna die a believer:
Bulletproofed
Now I'll be winter and you'll be content
I cut like Jack the Ripper so believe me when the boy sings
I'm gonna die a believer:
Bulletproofed
I'm gonna die a believer
Rock solid,
I can taste the fear in the air
In her hair
In her lipstick
Her screams
And I never loved another like this
It was bliss till she said I was vile
Now I'll be winter and you'll be content
I cut like Jack the Ripper so believe me when the boy sings
I'm gonna die a believer:
Bulletproofed
Dance like a stripper
It's money well spent
I cut like Jack the Ripper
So believe me when the boy sings
I'm gonna die a believer:
Bulletproofed
Rock solid
I can see you down on your knees
Begging please
With your fuck yous and thank yous
And I never
Ever loved another like this
It was bliss like we're going out of style
The opening line "She wore a pink sweater" paints a picture of a girl who stands out, who is different from others. The singer expresses that he had never seen her like this before, hinting that there might be a hidden meaning behind her outfit. The fact that they kiss and the singer "cut[s] himself open" metaphorically implies that he has opened himself up to her, and their relationship is intense and passionate. The phrase "It was bliss" reveals that even though their love is intense, it fills them with happiness, and the girl seems to share this feeling as she smiles.
However, the line "I'm gonna die a believer: bulletproofed" suggests that something darker and more dangerous is going on. It implies that the singer's love is like a bullet, unstoppable and deadly, and that he is invincible. The repetition of the line "I'm gonna die a believer" adds a sense of finality and inevitability. The phrases "Rock solid" and "I can taste the fear in the air" evoke a feeling of tension as if something terrible is about to happen. The image of the girl's hair, lipstick, and screams denote that something horrific and bloody has taken place.
The repeated line "I cut like Jack the Ripper" is the song's central motif that reflects the singer's mental state. He uses it as a metaphor for his destructive ways and his feelings; these feelings are uncontrollable, just like the actions of the real Jack the Ripper. Overall, the song depicts a dangerous, intense love that is doomed to end terribly.
