He thinks of her, she's all alone
Watching tv by an open window
He wonders if she knows, he thinks only he knows
But the days are passing
And he thinks she'll forget
So he keep it all here in the back of your head
I think of deep thoughts and I try to come
From my lonely heart to yours, so you know that I'm there
But the days are passing, and the fire is dead
So we keep it all here in the back of your head
Are you out there?
Are you anywhere?
Just say goodbye just like in my nightmare
Are you lost without me?
Are you better off dead?
You should keep it all here in the back of my head
I remember that we had no structure
Lonely park that night I wish I fucked her
Looked to your eyes can't remember whether or not
That I wish this night would last forever
Now the stories ending
And things are better not said
So we keep it all here in the back of your head
Are you out there?
Are you anywhere?
Just say goodbye just like in my nightmare
Are you lost without me?
Are you better off dead?
You should keep it all here in the back of you my head
Are you out there?
Are you anywhere?
Just say goodbye just like in my nightmare
Are you lost without me?
Are you better off dead?
You should keep it all here in the back of my head
Are you out there?
Are you anywhere?
Just say goodbye just like in my nightmare
Are you lost without me?
Are you better off dead?
You should keep it all here in the back of my head
The lyrics of Short Stack's The Back of My Head speak about the pain of clinging onto memories of a past relationship. The singer of the song has presumably cheated on his partner, and he continues to feel guilty about it. He believes that his partner does not know, and he is scared that one day she might find out. Despite his guilt, he keeps thinking about the other woman and their time together, and he cannot let go of the memory. He knows that as time passes, the guilt may fade, but he will always keep the memory in the back of his head.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of nostalgia and how we tend to paint our memories in a positive light. The singer remembers a time when he wished that a moment would last forever, but now he realizes that things are better left unsaid. He thinks that keeping the memory pristine in his head is better than risking the truth coming out.
Overall, The Back of My Head is a song about guilt, regret, and holding onto memories. The song's slow melody and sorrowful lyrics capture the pain of trying to move on from something that has already happened.
