Meat Is Murder
Shout Out Louds Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And meat is murder and I don't even dance
Something is still worrying me tonight
And oh, I'm falling and nothings working out
And what comes out from my mouth is nothing to worry to about
'Cause everything sounds miserable tonight
There are things you should keep to yourself
I haven't said too much, have I?
There are things you should keep to yourself
I haven't said too much, have I?
There are things you should keep to yourself
The lyrics of Shout Out Louds’s song “Meat Is Murder” are open to interpretation. However, the overall theme appears to be the singer’s feelings of helplessness and despair. The opening line, “Oh, I’m fading, I don’t stand a chance”, reveals the singer’s sense of hopelessness. This is followed by the line “And meat is murder and I don’t even dance”. This could be a reference to the singer’s mental state, which is so depleted that they don’t even have the energy to dance. It may also be a reference to the Smiths’ song “Meat Is Murder”, which was a protest against the meat industry.
The next two lines “Something is still worrying me tonight/And oh, I’m falling and nothing’s working out” suggest that the singer is plagued by problems that they cannot solve. The following line, “And what comes out from my mouth is nothing to worry to about”, suggests that the singer’s problems are not external, but rather come from within. The final line “’Cause everything sounds miserable tonight” reinforces the singer’s despair.
The chorus repeats the line “I haven’t said too much, have I?/There are things you should keep to yourself”. This could be interpreted as the singer’s attempt to hide their true feelings or as a commentary on how people often keep their most profound thoughts to themselves.
