The band was formed in 1973 by the amalgamation of two groups, Choise and The Golden Hammers. This led to an eight member band, with the unusual feature of having two vocalists, two drummers, two bassists and two guitarists. Their first single, Hey Rock 'n' Roll (written by the band), was released in April 1974. It reached number two in the UK singles chart. Showaddywaddy then went on to have a further 22 UK hits from this point until late 1982. The first few singles were all written by the band and these generally reached the top-20. However they had most of their biggest hits with pop versions of old '50s US rock 'n' roll songs, catchy tunes backed up by their colourful image, dance routines and numerous television appearances. Some of their best known covers are Three Steps To Heaven, Heartbeat, Under The Moon Of Love, You Got What It Takes, Blue Moon (based on the Marcels' interpretation), and I Wonder Why.
In total they had ten Top Ten singles, a Number One, and spent 209 weeks in the UK singles chart. At the peak of their popularity, this tally included having seven successive Top Five entries. Their biggest selling single was the aforementioned "Under The Moon Of Love", which sold 985,000 copies and gave the group its only UK Number One.

Hey Mister Christmas

Hey Mister Christmas, Mister Christmas here we come
Throw away your troubles at Christmas
And make this Christmas bright
Carol singin', bells are ringin', Santa comes tonight
Forget your troubles and worries
And kick them out the door
Hey Mister Christmas, we hope you're havin' fun
Hey Mister Christmas, Mister Christmas here we come
Old folks sit by the fire
Children play in the snow
They've been waiting, anticipating, see their faces glow
Forget your troubles and worries
And kick them out the door
Don't look back, come on in, we'll just play some more, more, more, more
Hey Mister Christmas, we hope you're havin' fun
Hey Mister Christmas, Mister Christmas here we come
Mister Christmas here we come
Hey Mister Christmas, we hope you're havin' fun
Hey Mister Christmas, Mister Christmas here we come
Hey Mister Christmas, we hope you're havin' fun
Hey Mister Christmas, Mister Christmas here we come
The song "Hey Mister Christmas" by Showaddywaddy is a cheerful and upbeat tune that invites listeners to forget their troubles and embrace the joy of the holiday season. The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone addressing "Mister Christmas," with the intention of wishing him a happy holiday and joining in the festivities. The song begins with a call and response-like refrain of "Hey Mister Christmas" that sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The line "Throw away your troubles at Christmas" reinforces this idea of embracing the holiday with a carefree attitude.
The song also highlights the traditional aspects of Christmas, such as carol singing, bell ringing, and waiting for Santa. It paints a picture of families gathered by the fire while children play in the snow outside. The lyrics encourage listeners to forget their worries and focus on enjoying the moment. The repetition of the phrase "Forget your troubles and worries / And kick them out the door / Don't look back, come on in, we'll just play some more" emphasizes this point and adds to the overall positive and festive mood of the song.

Very surprised and disappointed that this excellent Christmas song is not played more often, it is rarely mentioned on the radio and deserves more air play.

It wasn't even that popular when it was released, it was just a case of knock out a quick song with " hey" in the title to hopefully cash in on hey rock and roller

One of the most underrated Christmas songs.
