Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Shpongle's song "Ineffable Mysteries" reflect a sense of a transcendental journey where one explores the mysteries of the universe beyond the boundaries of time and space. The opening lines of the song are in the language of Indian classical music, and the syllables represent different notes played on traditional instruments. This creates a sense of the music taking the listener on a spiritual journey, similar to the Hindu concept of Nada Brahma, where the whole universe emanates from sound.

The song's title and lyrics also suggest that there are some mysteries that cannot be expressed through language or sound alone. There is a reference to "Kaleidoscopic colors" and "Geometric hallucinations," which could be interpreted as psychedelic experiences that lead to spiritual insights. The phrase "Entering Shpongleland" could also suggest the listener entering an altered state of consciousness, where they can experience the ineffable mysteries of the universe.

The song's closing lyrics "Oum SriGam Ganpataye Namah" are in Sanskrit and pay homage to Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the god of wisdom, knowledge, and removing obstacles. This can be interpreted as a reminder that the path to spiritual enlightenment requires the removal of obstacles, such as fear and ignorance.

I still find it hard to figure out the genre of Shpongle. There is too much happening in one album that it is pretty difficult to label this band. Regardless, the instant I turn this on, there is a jump in the level of consciousness. I am no longer thinking about the minute obsessions that keep running in my head all they long. What I am concerned about are problems of statistical significance like I am not my life but a link in a long chain headed towards something meaningful. And it's an ethical crime to not contribute back to this chain of consciousness. It's important to work hard to be useful. Even if I am not there to see, one day all of this will make sense. I just don't want to be the broken link in the chain of consciousness. This is not music. This is therapy.
