Shpongle's first track, "Vapour Rumours", was released on TIP Records' Infinite Excursions compilation in 1996. Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released in 1998 on Twisted Records. On 9 September 2014, Posford confirmed beginning work on a sixth album, which was eventually announced as Codex VI and set for release in October 2017. On 3 October, even before the release of Codex VI, the duo announced via a Facebook video that they have begun working on their seventh studio album.
Posford is generally responsible for the synthesizers, studio work, and live instrumentation, while Raja Ram contributes broad musical concepts and flute arrangements. Raja Ram stated in an interview that "Shpongle" is an umbrella term for feeling positive and euphoric emotions. Shpongle's music is heavily influenced by psychedelic experiences and frequently makes use of sonic textures that approximate psychedelic states as well as vocal samples relating to consciousness expansion, hallucinations, and altered states of awareness. For example, the track "A New Way to Say 'Hooray'", contains a vocal sample of Terence McKenna describing the effects of DMT.

The lyrics of Shpongle's song "Invocation" are spiritual in nature and are actually taken from a Sanskrit prayer/poem called "Yoga Taravali" by Shankaracharya. The prayer is meant to invoke blessings upon the practitioner of yoga and is often used at the beginning of a yoga practice. The lyrics speak to the different aspects of the self such as the mind, body, and soul, and how each aspect is acknowledged and paid reverence to through the practice of yoga.
The first two lines of the lyrics roughly translate to "Through yoga, the mind is purified; through right speech, the speech is purified; through medicine, the body is purified." This highlights the importance of not only physical actions but also mental and verbal actions in the pursuit of purity and health. The following lines pay homage to Patanjali, who is known as the father of yoga and is credited with writing the "Yoga Sutras," a foundational text on yoga philosophy. The singer acknowledges Patanjali's greatness and offers a humble bow in reverence.

when you play it backwards, it’s actually Gabber Tekno at 288bpm, but this is never apparent during the customary forward play, and this accounts for the abrupt ending which is in fact an accelerated Gabber start

I heard the full album on shrooms. When this part came up it was the best feeling. I associated this song with nothing else but life in its purest form. At around 2:10 a bright light came into my head and I saw a living human embryo in my mind, full of life, light and energy. I was close to crying because the beautifulness I felt was so incredibly intense.
good times :')
I definitely recommend this album if you're going to eat shrooms
