Shpongle's first track, "Vapour Rumours", was released on TIP Records' Infinite Excursions compilation in 1996. Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released in 1998 on Twisted Records. On 9 September 2014, Posford confirmed beginning work on a sixth album, which was eventually announced as Codex VI and set for release in October 2017. On 3 October, even before the release of Codex VI, the duo announced via a Facebook video that they have begun working on their seventh studio album.
Posford is generally responsible for the synthesizers, studio work, and live instrumentation, while Raja Ram contributes broad musical concepts and flute arrangements. Raja Ram stated in an interview that "Shpongle" is an umbrella term for feeling positive and euphoric emotions. Shpongle's music is heavily influenced by psychedelic experiences and frequently makes use of sonic textures that approximate psychedelic states as well as vocal samples relating to consciousness expansion, hallucinations, and altered states of awareness. For example, the track "A New Way to Say 'Hooray'", contains a vocal sample of Terence McKenna describing the effects of DMT.

Yeah weed can be a bastard, Im really thinking of quitting because I get such bad paranoia and anxiety from it even by itself these days. The times I've shroomed without it are a bit less intense visual wise but so much cleaner without the panic that I don't think its worth the trade off,
I think I might just eat a gram or two more than normal and skip the weed tomorrow; just because I don't want to deal with that BS. Its like your more fucked up but in a confusing panicky way instead of the awe and wonder feeling from mushrooms.
I like to trip all alone too, then you can just get weird with it sometimes Ive tripped so hard that I didn't realize I was rolling around on the ground making weird animal noises until I catch myself and then burst out laughing at the insanity, I wouldn't want to be around anyone and have them see that hahah. Alone you can just do whatever you want and don't have to decide as a group and theres no weird interactions with others, sometimes even your family and best friends can just annoy the shit out of you in that mindset let alone strangers, Id really have to mesh with someone to take the plunge together these days.
