You Belong To Me
Shrek soundtrack 8. Jason Wade Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Watch the sun rise
From the tropic isle
Just remember darling
All the while
You belong to me
See the market place
In old Algiers
Just remember
When a dream appears
You belong to me
And I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
Fly the ocean
In a silver plane
See the jungle
When it's wet with rain
Just remember till
You're home again
You belong to me
Oh I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
Fly the ocean
In a silver plane
See the jungle
When it's wet with rain
Just remember till
You're home again
You belong to me
The lyrics of Jason Wade's song "You Belong To Me" from the Shrek soundtrack speaks about a person's love, devotion, and affection for someone special. The song is about how distance can never diminish or affect the love and dedication between two people. The opening lines talk about exotic places and how beautiful the world is, but no matter where they go, the person belongs to the singer. The singer asks the listener to send him photographs and souvenirs, reassuring them that they belong to him.
The song reminds the listener that they will feel lonely without him, but he also acknowledges that they may feel the same way. The lyrics stress that being apart is a temporary situation and soon they will be together again. Throughout the song, there's a sense of longing and assurance that no matter what, they belong to each other.
Overall, "You Belong To Me" speaks to the depths of true love that transcends geographical boundaries and physical distance. It stresses on the fact that even though two people may be far from each other, their love still remains strong.

While Disney is beautiful, heart warming, and magical, I think Dreamworks cuts down deep to the core of true emotion. They give us characters we can relate to. Imperfect characters with real problems like humility, modesty, and trying to fit in amongst disapproving piers. I'm not saying Disney doesn't have any of those qualities, but Dreamworks expresses it with greater, more realistic, details. :)
