religion
Shura Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's human
It's our religion
No preacher to teach us to love
Two bodies
One vision
No one's watching over us

We've been talking on the telephone for hours at night
Whilst I've been thinking about kissing you
I wanna consecrate your body
Turn the water to wine
I know you're thinking about kissing too

Oh girl, don't stop, please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl, don't stop, please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl

You can lay your hands on me

It could be LA
It could be Heaven
If you're an Angel, can I be your God?
You in all your glory
It's not confession
Baby don't apologize

We've been talking on the telephone for hours at night
Whilst I've been thinking about kissing you
I wanna consecrate your body
Turn the water to wine
I know you're thinking about kissing too

Oh girl, don't stop, please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl, don't stop, please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl
You can lay your hands on me

You can lay your hands on me

We've been talking on the telephone for hours at night
Whilst I've been thinking about kissing you
I wanna consecrate your body
Turn the water to wine
I know you're thinking about kissing too

Oh girl, don't stop
please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl, don't stop
please
You can lay your hands on me
Oh girl

You can lay your hands on me

You can lay your hands on me

Overall Meaning

The song "Religion" by Shura explores the idea that falling in love with someone can feel like a religious experience - it's something that takes over you and becomes part of your belief system. The lyrics "It's human, it's our religion" suggest that falling in love is a natural human experience and that it can be just as significant and sacred as following a traditional religious path.

The lines "Two bodies, one vision, no one's watching over us" convey the idea that two people can come together to create a shared vision and experience that is unique to them. The lyrics also suggest that there is no external force or higher power that is dictating their relationship - they are in control and making their own choices.

The chorus of the song repeats the lines "Oh girl, don't stop, please, you can lay your hands on me" which could be interpreted as an invitation to physical intimacy but could also suggest a deeper desire to be vulnerable and connected with another person. Overall, the song paints a picture of two people who have a deep connection and are exploring this connection without judgement or external influences.

I can't even describe how happy I felt when it cut from the scene of them kissing to a scene of them getting happily married. I totally expected that this is gonna be one of the "girls fall in love even though it's against their religion and then someone founds out and they get punished" stories and not that there's anything wrong with those, it's important to tell them, but the fact that Nothing (other than their feelings) is standing against these women's love just brought me so much joy. Also all of the ladies in this are absolutely stunning.

is anyone not gonna acknowledge the brilliant " i wanna consecrate your body, turn the water to wine" that is some fine lyricism maam

"It’s human, it’s our Religion. No preacher to teach us to love.
Two bodies, one vision. No one’s watching over us."

Masterpiece!

Ishmael sassoon

i see you liked the most disrespectful mocking line .

CN Tom

@Ishmael sassoon that didn't even pertain to any specific body of faith, how is it disrespectful?

Ishmael sassoon

@CN Tom did i say it did , the whole issue is that it mocked most religions in general with that one line that doesnt mean the effects of the one line dillutes in fact it probably makes it even worse since youre mocking most religions., plus if i had to take a guess if there was a specific religion i think we could all tell from the video .

CN Tom

@Ishmael sassoon bro you're reaching. Asides from not being specific to any religion, that line was not disrespectful at all.

It simply means if you are queer there's no rules to follow set by religion. Which is objectively true. Just because there's a mention of preachers doesn't mean it's mocking. If you get offended by that then you're insecure.
