The colour gleams, ultra clean
Stripped back to expose one eye
Always waiting patiently, numb
Temptation of salvation, crumbling
You tripped on a hole you dug
Look to the sky, in the fading light
You see yourself rise
Eating you from the inside out
Fade in time, feel the weight of surprise
Undisguised, whispered alibies
You got a dirty face
Please arrive at a place in time
See the prize twisted in your eyes
You got a dirty face
Oh you smell nice to entice, fool
Cos in the last 24 people fooled you more
Just let you do it, fathead
But you better, goddamn
Oh no, now you just look dead
But you know it's too late to know now
Oh no, now you just look dead
Dead.
I will wait along time.
The song "Karma" by Si*Sé is a haunting and introspective expression of self-reflection and redemption. The opening lines suggest that one's actions and deeds are "chronicled" in the sky, emphasizing the eternal nature of our actions and the weight they carry. The second line, "The color gleams, ultra clean," suggests that this record is crystal clear, and there is no hiding from it. The stripped-down music enhances the sense of naked introspection the lyrics convey. The line "Always waiting patiently, numb," portrays a sense of helplessness and detachment, awaiting redemption, but feeling numbed by the weight of one's actions.
The chorus speaks to a desire for salvation that is crumbling, and the singer has tripped on a hole that they themselves dug. This suggests that the singer may have been complicit in their downfall, and the salvation they sought is no longer attainable.
The second verse portrays the consequences of the singer's actions, affecting others, giving them a "dirty face" and twisted eyes. The line "You got a dirty face, please arrive at a place in time," suggests that there may be an opportunity to reconcile or pay for past mistakes.
The bridge brings the singer face to face with the reality of their situation. They have been fooled by others, and now their fate is sealed. The repetition of "Oh no, now you just look dead," emphasizes the finality of the situation. The closing line, "I will wait a long time," suggests that redemption may come, but it will require patience and perseverance.
