You were holding hands
And I'll never be the same
Where should I begin? Let's see
You said you needed space
To clear up all the haze
If you've really opened up to me
All this disarray
'Cause I saw you walking in the rain
You were holding hands
And I'll never be the same
Oh no, I'll never be the same
Oh no, never be the same
Oh no, I'll never be the same
Oh no, I'll never be the same
Oh no
The truth is always best, you see
I walk away with dignity
While you swim in regret
All that keeps popping in my head
Are some words you said to me in bed
But the love you gave is the love I'll forget
Cause I saw you walking in the rain
You were holding hands
And I'll never be the same
Oh no, I saw you and her walking in the rain
You were holding hands
You were holding hands
You were holding hands
And I'll never be the same ...
Oh no, I'll never be the same (repeat)
The lyrics of Si*Sé's song "The Rain" discuss the heartbreak and devastation that the singer feels after seeing their significant other holding hands with another person in the rain. The opening line of the song immediately sets the scene, with the singer describing seeing the person they love in the rain holding hands with someone else. This moment changes everything for the singer, who declares "I'll never be the same" multiple times throughout the song.
Throughout the rest of the song, the singer deals with their feelings of hurt and betrayal. The lyrics suggest that the couple had previously been experiencing some difficulties, and the other person had asked for space to "clear up all the haze". However, the singer is understandably confused and hurt by what they've seen, and questions how the other person could explain their actions. The singer ultimately comes to the realization that they need to walk away from the situation with dignity, but they can't help feeling heartbroken by the love they were given that they now have to forget.
In terms of themes, the lyrics of "The Rain" speak to the universal experience of heartbreak and the emotions that come with it - feelings of betrayal, confusion, and hurt that many people can relate to. The lyrics also suggest that even when we try to move on from a difficult situation, seeing the person we love with someone else can be incredibly painful.
