In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music's sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year. Displeased with the promotion of the record, she signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The project struggled to connect with a mainstream audience, and so Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and began touring across the United States. She released her fourth and fifth studio releases, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She then took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists. Her catalogue includes the successful collaborations "Titanium" (with David Guetta), "Diamonds" (with Rihanna) and "Wild Ones" (with Flo Rida).
In 2014, Sia released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, which debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten breakthrough single "Chandelier" and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, "Cheap Thrills". The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
Sea Shells

Since time began
Watch the wind blow
Sculpting sand
All in letters bound in string
Life is slowly unraveling
Burning castle
Mr. Prince has lost her crown
All in letters bound in string
Time is slowly unraveling
She sells
Empty sea shells
Lost in the ocean
Through the window
We can see
Sand and biscuits
Cups of tea
All in letters bound in string
Life is slowly unraveling
All in letters bound in string
Life is slowly unraveling
She sells
Empty sea shells
She sells
Empty sea shells
In Sia's song "Sea Shells," the lyrics depict a sense of melancholy and nostalgia for the past. The first stanza describes someone watching the wind sculpting sand through a window since the beginning of time. This scene serves as a metaphor for the passage of time and how life can unravel slowly over time, captured in the lines "Life is slowly unraveling." The second stanza follows a similar theme, but this time the metaphor shifts to a burning castle and a lost crown belonging to Mr. Prince. These images convey a sense of loss and the inevitable decay of things over time.
The chorus is where we hear the titular line "She sells empty sea shells." This line is interesting because it refers to the common beachcomber activity of collecting and selling seashells found on the shore. However, the word "empty" denotes a sense of hollowness and the idea that something once whole is now incomplete, perhaps mirroring the lost crown in the previous stanza. The chorus also mentions "sand and biscuits, cups of tea," which conjures up images of coziness and simplicity, perhaps a nod to finding comfort in the small things as life unravels.
Overall, "Sea Shells" is a poignant and introspective song about the passage of time and the fleeting nature of life. The lyrics utilize powerful metaphors and vivid imagery to convey a sense of sadness and nostalgia for what is lost.

All smiles, I know what it takes to fool this town
I'll do it 'til the sun goes down and all through the nighttime
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I'll tell you what you wanna hear
Keep my sunglasses on while I shed a tear
It's never the right time, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong I am
I put my armor on, I'll show you that I am
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
And, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Break down, only alone I will cry out loud
You'll never see what's hiding out
Hiding out deep down, yeah, yeah
I know, I've heard that to let your feelings show
Is the only way to make friendships grow
But I'm too afraid now, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong I am
I put my armor on, I'll show you that I am
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
And, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
