In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music's sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year. Displeased with the promotion of the record, she signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The project struggled to connect with a mainstream audience, and so Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and began touring across the United States. She released her fourth and fifth studio releases, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She then took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists. Her catalogue includes the successful collaborations "Titanium" (with David Guetta), "Diamonds" (with Rihanna) and "Wild Ones" (with Flo Rida).
In 2014, Sia released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, which debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten breakthrough single "Chandelier" and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, "Cheap Thrills". The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
You’ve Changed
Sia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I saw girls falling hook line
You stole kisses and threw them aside
Hits and misses your love-side
You've changed for the better
You've changed for the better
And I asked you to hold me
And I knew it
You do it in front of the world
And I'll end up different from the other girls
You've changed for the better
You've changed for the better
In Sia's song You've Changed, the lyrics speak of someone who used to be a heartbreaker, a person who made a sport of stealing and then discarding the affections and emotions of lovers. The singer, addressing this past lover, claims to have witnessed the painful spectacle of girls helplessly succumbing to his irresistible charms. However, the singer also points out that something has changed in this person's behavior, and that this change has been positive.
The second verse of the song shifts the focus to the singer's own relationship with the person being addressed. She describes how, despite her desire for affection and tenderness, the lover prioritized making a name for himself and being seen as a larger-than-life figure. The implication is that this attitude is what doomed their relationship to failure, as the singer could not compete with the spotlight-loving nature of the lover.
All in all, Sia's "You've Changed" is a song about transformation, both negative and positive. The song touches on themes such as growth, acceptance, and the importance of communication and honesty in relationships. As the chorus suggests, change is not always a bad thing; sometimes, it can even be for the better.
