Even though the english lyrics shown here in the video somewhat represent what is being said, the official translation by Keith Bosley shows the lyrical beauty of Finlandia pretty well. It always brings tears to my eyes when the singing starts.

Finland, behold, thy daylight now is dawning,
the threat of night has now been driven away.
The skylark calls across the light of morning,
the blue of heaven lets it have its way,
and now the day the powers of night is scorning:
thy daylight dawns, O Finland of ours!

Finland, arise, and raise towards the highest
thy head now crowned with mighty memory.
Finland, arise, for to the world thou criest
that thou hast thrown off thy slavery,
beneath oppression´s yoke thou never liest.
Thy morning´s come, O Finland of ours!

Oi, Suomi, katso, sinun päiväs' koittaa,
Yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois,
Ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa,
Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois'.
Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa,
Sun päiväs' koittaa, oi synnyinmaa.
Oi, nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle,
Pääs' seppelöimä suurten muistojen.
Oi, nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle,
Sa että karkoitit orjuuden,
Ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle,
On aamus' alkanut, synnyinmaa.

Siinä.

I am from America. As I turn 75 yoa, and am losing my battle with inoperable cancer, I listen to Finlandia daily. It always brings tears to my eyes, which I believe cleanses one's soul. I don't fear death, I accept it. I will continue listening to most beautiful piece of music ever written, as long as GOD gives me life.

I strongly recommend his symphony #7. I’ve had a similar relationship with it listening nearly daily. Love Kurt Sanderling version with Berliner Sinfonie.

@@kcgreen2537 Seconded, especially for the phase of life original poster is in. It is a beautiful, concise, majestic statement and Sibelius' perfected masterpiece. I would strongly recommend Segerstam with Danish orchestra (*not* so much the Helsinki phil)

Life continues after we dropped the flesh garment. Fare well my brother!

@@yohannesephrem9096 So true. So very true. I thank you.

This song is about freedom and the perseverance of self governance no matter how difficult it might get sometimes. This might encapsulate the Finnish "SISU" mentality. I am very sad to hear about your situation and I send all my best wishes to you and your family. As Yohannes said previously, we will high five each other on the other side..

You know its a good piece when it makes you feel patriotic for a country that's not your own.

@frankeggers4024

We sang it in church this morning but in English and appropriate words for the U.S.A.

@postilaatikko7384

it is a song for the Finns not USA or anyone else.
