After spending months crafting their new songs Sick City's long awaited full-length album, NIGHTLIFE, is scheduled for release September 18. Youngson gives a glimpse into what fans can expect. "We like to say our music is 60% evil 40% pop. Kind of a joke... but actually very accurate. All I really want is to make the kids clap their hands, dance and maybe think a little bit on the way."
In March, Sick City headed to Atlanta, Georgia where they recorded NIGHTLIFE at Tree Sound Studios with producers Kenneth Mount & Zach Odom (Cartel, Jimmy Eat World). According to guitarist Dave Grabowski working with Kenneth and Zach was a match made in rock and roll heaven. "It was amazing to work with people who shared the same vision of big drums, and sweet all around tone. They helped us focus some of our songs and got us stoked to be there every day." Bassist TJ Stevenson concurs, "Every single element of this album sounds better than I envisioned it."
Winnipeg, Manitoba's Sick City formed in early 2005 with Josh Youngson (vocals), Joel Neufeld (drums), Dorian Paszkowski (guitar), Dave Grabowski (guitar) and T.J Stevenson (bass) and they released their 5 song EP, "Where Do We Go From Here" the same year. Joel, who is the brother of Comeback Kid frontman Andrew Neufeld, secured the band their first show opening at the CD release party for Comeback Kid's "Wake The Dead." A year later they played to a crowd of 800 dancing fans for their own EP release party. According to Stevenson, "there isn't a show to date that we all haven't been drenched in sweat by the end. We put on a show that lets people know how much we love to do this."

Tora Tora My Dear Tora
Sick City Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
cause sometimes we forget what we have 'til our bodies give in a wave of shattered glass.
Your whites turn to black and you will sing with this breath, that's your last.
I'll be alright, yeah I've heard that before, I'll be all...
Just rest my head on this hospital bed, stained with red and surrounded by friends.
Forget what I said about you and your friends.
I've always loved you and that's all that's left.
I wanted to say goodbye (wanted to say, wanted to say) I needed to say goodbye...
I'll be fine, I'll be alright. I love you.
The lyrics to Sick City's "Tora Tora My Dear Tora" are emotionally raw and explore the themes of mortality and love. The first lines "Sleep when you're dead, 'cause sometimes we forget what we have 'til our bodies give in a wave of shattered glass" suggest a sense of urgency and a need to appreciate life before it's too late. The image of shattered glass evokes a sense of danger, fragility, and impermanence. The next lines "Your whites turn to black and you will sing with this breath, that's your last" further emphasize the idea of the transience of life and the inevitability of death.
The second verse takes a more personal tone as the singer is in a hospital bed, surrounded by friends stained with red (presumably blood). The line "Forget what I said about you and your friends" suggests that there was some sort of conflict or disagreement but it no longer matters in the face of mortality. The singer proclaims their love for someone, perhaps a romantic partner or a close friend, in the line "I've always loved you and that's all that's left." The song ends with the singer saying their final goodbyes and expressing their love in the lines "I wanted to say goodbye (wanted to say, wanted to say) I needed to say goodbye...I'll be fine, I'll be alright. I love you."
Overall, "Tora Tora My Dear Tora" is a poignant and heartfelt reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the importance of love and connection.
