Without Love
Sierra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I want to scream and kick and fall
I try to close my eyes and listen
For a voice so very small
When I feel attacked
And I want to give some of it back
I need to get down on my knees and pray for love
I know that I would be nothing
Without love
I would have nothing to give
Without love
My heart would beat for no reason
There wouldn't be a reason to live
Without love
I've been known to build up walls of fear
Around my heart and hide in here
Let emotions cloud my vision
'Til I can't see clear
And I can fight with those who disagree
Or I can reach out with words of mercy
With the kind of love Christ Jesus gives to me
So let me love my brother like You first loved me
A heart full of compassion is all I really need
The lyrics in Sierra's song "Without Love" are a reflection of the power of love to transform and heal even in the most difficult circumstances. The song acknowledges the reality of life's challenges and the temptation to respond with anger or frustration. However, it encourages listeners to push past these negative emotions and turn to love instead. The first verse paints a picture of someone feeling trapped and overwhelmed, but by closing their eyes and listening for a small voice, they find hope and strength in love.
The chorus repeats the message that without love, life is empty and meaningless. It's a reminder that love is the foundation for everything we do and without it, we are lost. The second verse acknowledges the tendency we all have to build walls around our hearts and avoid vulnerability. But the song suggests that this approach only leads to more pain and confusion. Instead, we should open our hearts and show compassion to others, just as Jesus did.
The final few lines of the song offer a calling to action. We are all called to love one another, and by doing so, we fulfill our purpose in life. "So let me love my brother like You first loved me, a heart full of compassion is all I really need." These lyrics remind us that love isn't just a feeling or an idea - it's something we must actively pursue and practice every day.
