Their debut full-length release, “Earth Harvest”, showcases the bands extreme heaviness and technicality while still keeping the punters moshing with crushing breakdowns and slams. This relentless 5-piece (consisting of Kyson Shepherd on vocals, Hayden Foot and Ryan Guest on guitars, Byron Silich on bass and Ryan Atkin on drums) will be touring heavily throughout 2011 in support of the album.
In 2012 they released their second album, Abnegate.
Origins
Signal The Firing Squad Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the love we share binds us wherever
The bind which i have held tight to our necks,
I let it slip and watch these worlds collide
The origins of my suicide are as clear as day
I am alpha omega the beggining and the end
Our origins metamorphize and they die
And the love we share binds us wherever
The bind which i have held tight to our necks,
I let it slip and watch these worlds collide
The origins of my suicide
Are as clear as day and as dark as night
Breathing disease ; humans are nothing but a
Breathing disease ; humans are nothing but a fucking breathing disease
I am nothing that i cease to be
A nihilist is born inside of me
Our origins disgust me
Our origins destroy us
Our origins fucking destroy us
The opening lines of Signal The Firing Squad's Origins proclaim a deep connection between origins and love. The singer grapples with the bind that ties their origins to their present and future, while invoking a profound sense of closeness between people who share histories. However, as the song progresses, it becomes clearer that these origins are not a source of pride or joy. The line "Our origins disgust me" lays bare the singer's sense of revulsion towards not just their personal history but the collective history of humanity. This disgust is intertwined with a sense of hopelessness and despair, as the line "The origins of my suicide" suggests. The singer sees themselves as both alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, suffused with a sense of fatalism that is difficult to shake off.
The recurring theme of the "bind" in the lyrics is noteworthy, as it suggests a certain sense of suffocation or restraint that the singer is trying to shake off. They speak of letting the bind slip, and watching worlds collide, invoking a sense of chaos and unpredictability. The song also has a political edge, with the line "Breathing disease; humans are nothing but a fucking breathing disease" indicating a deep distrust or aversion to the way that humanity has evolved. Ultimately, the song is a deeply introspective and melancholic meditation on the perennial questions of where we come from, and what defines us.
