I Don't Want To Know
Sigrid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you have your good side, oh, I know you have
Even at your worst, you, you're not so bad

But when you had the choice, you chose someone else
When you had the choice, you chose someone else
Someone else

I don't wanna meet ya, I don't wanna talk
'Cause I don't wanna know that nothing's changed at all
You don't need a reason, this is not your fault
I don't wanna know, I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know

My everyday reminder, walking by your house
That I'm the outsider in your crowd

'Cause when you had the choice, you chose someone else
When you had the choice, you chose someone else
Someone else

I don't wanna meet ya, I don't wanna talk
'Cause I don't wanna know that nothing's changed at all
You don't need a reason, this is not your fault
I don't wanna know, I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know

And I tell my mom I feel like the odd one out
Then she says that no one really likes Junior High
And I believe her, yeah, I believe her
And if I run into you in the same old bar
I'll say, "It's totally cool, I'm not hurt at all"
"It's good to see you, so good to see you"

But I don't wanna meet ya, I don't wanna talk
'Cause I don't wanna know that nothing's changed at all
You don't need a reason, this is not your fault
I don't wanna know, no, I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know

I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know

I don't wanna know
I don't wanna know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sigrid's song "I Don't Want To Know" convey a sense of disappointment and resignation towards a past romantic relationship. The singer acknowledges that the person they once loved has a good side and is not inherently bad. However, the pain stems from the fact that when given the choice, the person chose someone else over the singer. This decision haunts the singer, as they don't want to confront the reality that nothing has changed between them. They express a desire to avoid meeting or talking with this person because it would only confirm that things haven't improved. The lyrics also touch upon the feeling of being an outsider in the person's life, symbolized by walking by their house and acknowledging that they are not part of their social circle. Despite this, the singer tries to put up a brave front, pretending not to be hurt if they were to run into the person in a familiar bar. In the end, they reiterate their reluctance to know and face the unchanged reality of the situation.

I don’t know what it is, but this song has something so strikingly emotional since the beginning. Very few songs make me feel the way this one does. I mean, I can be totally happy, thankfully my boyfriend has chosen me, but I feel so touched whenever I hear she singing “when you had the choice you chose someone else”, “you don’t need a reason, this is not your fault”. I can only believe Sigrid captured the feeling straight from her heart and translated it into these words/melody, because whenever I hear it I feel something so specific and transcendental
