There's a whole world outside
I saw it last night
Yeah, they're saying I'm insane
'Cause I wanna go to space
And leave it all behind
And leave it all behind
I'm leaving
I (I), I've never, ever been this far away from home
And now I know
It gets dark, yeah, it gets dark
And I, I'm moving at the speed of light, I had to go
But now I know
It gets dark so I can see the stars
Yeah, my feet came off the ground
Gravity won't hold me down
No, not this time
I'm not who I used to be
'Cause I came out here to see
The universe inside
I'm leaving them behind
I'm leaving them
I (I), I've never, ever been this far away from home
And now I know
It gets dark, yeah, it gets dark
And I, I'm moving at the speed of light, I had to go
But now I know
It gets dark so I can see the stars
It gets dark so I can see the stars
It gets dark so I can see the stars
It gets dark so I can see the stars
It gets dark so I can see the stars
In Sigrid's song "It Gets Dark," the lyrics convey a sense of longing for freedom and escape from the constraints of everyday life. The song speaks to the desire to explore new horizons, both metaphorically and literally. The singer expresses a yearning to leave behind the familiar and venture into the unknown, symbolized by wanting to go to space.
The lyrics suggest that others may consider the singer's ambitions as crazy or irrational. However, the desire to break free from the norm becomes an empowering force. The singer recognizes that stepping into the unknown can be daunting, acknowledging that "it gets dark." Yet, this darkness serves a purpose - it enables the singer to see the stars, representing discovery, inspiration, and the realization of dreams.
The song's verses highlight the transformation experienced by the singer upon leaving their comfort zone. The uplifting chorus infuses a sense of liberation, emphasizing the joy of exploring new frontiers. Ultimately, the lyrics celebrate the courage to chase one's dreams, even if it means leaving others behind and embracing the darkness to find the beauty of the stars.
